What If Charity Replaced Taxation?

By Jean Vilbert

Is State activity the only or best way to provide services to the poor? Do we have alternatives? How about charity? Couldn’t charity replace taxation? It could—and with solid advantages.

There are four main reasons why this is the case: moral, political, financial, and psychological...

Fox's Ainsley Earhardt defends giant corporations paying no taxes: "So what?"

EARHARDT: Listen, when you create 300,000 jobs, so what if you get a tax break? That's great. We want you to come to New York. Remember when Amazon was supposed to come here, and then it was squashed by all these lawmakers? It's ridiculous. If you hire 300,000 people, they all live in your community, right? Not only are you employing them so that they feel good about themselves, they're working hard, but also they spend money in your community, they buy houses, they pay taxes, they send their kids to school. It's ridiculous. So what if they don't pay as much in taxes as everyone else does?

Sanders: Socialism Will Spike Taxes, But Americans Will Be ‘Delighted’ To Pay Extra

Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders acknowledged a tax increase from his policies and said Americans would be “delighted” to pay extra, in a CNN interview with Anderson Cooper Wednesday.

“I suspect that a lot of people in this country would be delighted to pay more in taxes if they had comprehensive health care as a human right,” Sanders said. The Vermont senator also went on to tell Cooper that he bases his principles on his 50-mile proximity to the Canadian border, where universal health care is law.

What Sanders did not include in his statement was the cost of his programs. The Mercatus Center at George Mason University released a study in 2018 saying Americans can estimate to foot a $32.6 trillion bill over a 10-year period for “Medicare for All,” Fox News reported. Sanders has also omitted cost information on his campaign website.

NBC Promotes Kamala Harris’s ‘Big Idea’ to Jack Up the Death Tax

While completely ignoring those facts, Smith allowed Harris to freely declare “we will pay for it by increasing the estate tax.” Estate tax, a.k.a. the death tax.

This Democrat-policy megaphone segment came shortly after the network boosted former Vice President Joe Biden’s visit to Iowa, where he decried President Trump’s trade war because it hurt Iowa farmers. But one of the largest threats to family farms (like the ones in Iowa) was the death tax.

Because of the value wrapped up in all aspects of farming and its illiquid nature, it can become nearly impossible for families to keep their farms when they’re forced to pay massive death taxes after a loved one passes.

How Connecticut's "Tax On The Rich" Ended: Middle-Class Tax Hikes, Lost Jobs, More Poverty

In the past 30 years, just one U.S. state has adopted a progressive income tax: Connecticut. It made the switch from a flat income tax in 1996, phasing in the progressive income tax over three years.

The results were disastrous. And they should halt, or at least caution, Illinois lawmakers now pushing to do the same.

Connecticut’s experience is a warning that switching to a progressive income tax will eventually end in a tax hike on Illinois’ struggling middle class, result in fewer jobs – particularly for those on the margins of the labor force – and increase poverty. It will fail to combat inequality or fix the state’s finances.

While Connecticut lawmakers sold the progressive tax as a way to provide middle-class tax relief and reduce property taxes, neither occurred. Instead, everyday taxpayers have been hit with recurring income and property tax hikes.

Californians dodge another tax increase as lawmaker pulls bill opposed by tire dealers

A proposal to raise the California tire change fee, which critics called a tax that would hit lower-income residents hardest, has been pulled at the request of its sponsor.

Assemblyman Chris Holden, D-Pasadena, requested that Assembly Bill 755 be shelved on Wednesday.

“We are in the first year of a two year legislative session, and we need more time to work with stakeholders so that we can successfully navigate it through the legislative process and ultimately deliver a solution that many cities need to mitigate stormwater contamination,” Holden said in a statement.

AB 755 was part of a raft of tax increase proposals considered by the Democrat-controlled Legislature this session. The bill would have raised the tire change fee from $1.75 to $3.25, with the estimated $55 million in annual revenue going into the state’s Stormwater Permit Compliance Fund.

Here’s a Lesson From the 108,000 Millionaires Who Left Their Home Countries Last Year

By Simon Black, Sovereign Man

According to a recent report from Bloomberg, more than 108,000 millionaires left their home countries last year in search of greener pastures.

Most emigrated from countries like China and Russia… no surprise there.

India also saw a large outflow of millionaires as tax authorities tightened their grip. And Turkey continues to see an exodus, in the wake of strong-man President Erdogan.

But Western countries like France and England also lost boat loads (or planes full) of millionaires. Excessive taxation is the most obvious reason...

Big corporations pay no income tax, unlike you

Telling you that Donald Trump lied, or that the one percent continue to succeed in their incessant class warfare, ranks in the astonishment department with being told the Sun rose in the east this morning. Do we really need more evidence?

Necessary or not, more evidence continues to be delivered. The latest delivery comes courtesy of the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy, which has found that 60 of the largest corporations in the United States paid no income taxes for 2018 despite earning a composite $79 billion in net income. Worse, these companies actually received $4.3 billion in tax rebates.

Had these companies paid taxes at the newly reduced corporate tax rate of 21 percent, these companies would have paid $16.4 billion in taxes. So we have a difference of more than $20 billion

California’s High-Speed Train Makes Solyndra Look Like a Bargain

By David Boaz

The ongoing saga of California’s high-speed bullet train may end up being as classic a story of Democratic politicians’ hubris as the Solyndra debacle. The difference is that the bullet train is still going—well, not the train itself, but the taxpayer spending on the planning—despite some optimism earlier this year that Gov. Gavin Newsom was going to put the project out of its misery. A Los Angeles Times story last week by Ralph Vartabedian is a deep dive on the consulting companies that have been intimately involved in the whole process. Here’s the most revealing nugget...

US Sees First Military Expenditure Increase Since 2010

Report: Global Military Expenditure at 3-Decade High, Biggest Spender US Sees First Increase Since 2010
The world has spent $1.8 trillion on its military in 2018, and the US is leading the charge, while some of its NATO allies are also buffing their war budgets citing the Russian threat despite Moscow decreasing its military spending.

***
The tensions between countries in Asia as well as between China and the USA are major drivers for the continuing growth of military spending in the region,” Pieter Wezeman, a senior researcher at the SIPRI Arms and Military Expenditure (AMEX) program, stated.

While Washington has been an undisputed leader of the chart for years, last year it upped its game even more, increasing its military spending for the first time since 2010. The surge in US defense spending is a direct reflection of the Trump administration's policy, according to SIPRI.

"The increase in US spending was driven by the implementation from 2017 of new arms procurement programs under the Trump administration">>>

"You Have Nothing, But Money": Trump Says US Losing Its A** Defending Saudi Arabia

US President Donald Trump once again humiliated the regime in Riyadh, saying he likes the leader of Saudi Arabia, but Washington is protecting King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and his son Mohammad bin Salman (MbS), therefore the oil-rich kingdom should pay more money.
“Look, Saudi Arabia, very rich country, we defend them, we subsidize Saudi Arabia. They have nothing but cash, right? We subsidize them. And they buy a lot from us, $450 billion they bought,” Trump said during a rally in Wisconsin on Saturday.

Trump's tax bill allows twice as many companies to pay zero taxes

The tax plan introduced by the administration of US President Donald Trump has allowed twice as many companies to pay zero taxes, according to a recent report.

The report by the Center for Public Integrity revealed that under the Trump tax plan, which is officially known as the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, corporate tax rates were lowered from 35 percent to 21 percent resulting in the number of companies paying no taxes to go from 30 to 60 in its first year.

The Washington, DC-based think-tank, the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy (ITEP) found that the number of companies exempted from taxes was more than twice as many as ITEP found roughly, per year.

Many of the country's largest publicly-held corporations have reported that they owe absolutely nothing on the billions of dollars in profits they earned last year, it said.

Here's New Mexico Militia Leader Johnny Horton Jr.'s Bizarre Arrest Record

Very interesting.Anybody arrested for felon in possession of a firearm would get 15 months prison time by the feds. No federal charges until this little stunt. This fellow is working for somebody IMHO. Even if this article is from the SPLC.

Horton’s fundraising attempts were documented in November in a Hatewatch article about how caravan paranoia was sowing division among militia diehards. The article revealed that Horton’s real name is Larry Hopkins, a fact he fails to make clear in his group’s fundraising pitches on PayPal and GoFundMe. Since then, Hopkins, 69, has increased the amount of money he’s asking for to more than $12,000, having already surpassed his previous goal of $2,500.

Now, Hatewatch has obtained records that show there’s more to Hopkins’ history than just his fictitious name and elaborate claims.
