Greece, China Sign 16 Belt And Road Deals To Open New Superhighway

Chinese President Xi Jinping is on an official visit in Athens Monday has signed 16 agreements in sectors including agriculture, energy, ports, and tourism aimed at increasing Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) projects in the European Union, reported Bloomberg.

President Xi met with political leaders in Athens Monday, after the Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited China last week.

Beijing is planning on significantly boosting Chinese investment in Greece, which could lay the groundwork for a new superhighway of trade between Europe and China.

Webmaster's Commentary:

While abhorring Communism per se, because it takes living saints to make it work, and I have not seen too many of them this lifetime, I must admit that China's willingness to make deals, rather than wage wars, to get what it wants geopolitcally, is not at all a bad thing, in my book.

Mass Chemical Attack On School In China Leaves 54 Injured, Mostly Children

What's being reported as a mass chemical attack on children happened Monday afternoon at a school in southwest China. The horrific incident injured fifty-one children and three teachers at a kindergarten in Kaiyuan city, Yunnan province, state media reported Tuesday.

A 23-year old man, now in custody, reportedly scaled a wall to get into the school and then sprayed a corrosive chemical on the students and teachers. Xinhua news described that he used a "caustic soda" — a reference to sodium hydroxide, which is an industrial chemical commonly used in the manufacture of household products.

US War on China by Other Means

All independent nations unwilling to subordinate their sovereign rights to US interests are on its target list for regime change — notably Russia, Iran and China.

The Trump regime initiated Sino/US trade war has nothing to do with trade, everything to do with hardliners in Washington wanting China’s economic, financial, industrial, technological, and military development undermined.

Endless US-orchestrated violence in Hong Kong is one of many examples of how its dark forces aim to disrupt, destabilize, weaken, pressure, and bludgeon other countries to bend to its will.

Caught On Video: Hong Kong Protester Shot By Police During Morning Clashes; Hang Seng Tumbles

Hong Kong police opened fire and hit at least one protester on Monday according to multiple news sources, as chaos erupted across the city a day after officers fired tear gas to break up demonstrations that are entering their sixth month.

Police fired live rounds at protesters on the eastern side of Hong Kong island, and local Cable TV said one protester was wounded when police opened fire. Video footage showed a protester lying in a pool of blood with his eyes wide open. Police also pepper-sprayed and subdued a woman nearby as plastic crates were thrown at officers, the video shared on social media showed.

The shot protester is said in critical condition, according to Cable TB.

Webmaster's Commentary:

President Xi, a word, please; I know, in your heart of hearts, that you would love go be able to blame "US instigators" for this 6th ongoing month of unrest.

But there is a point past which repression cannot be tolerated by the human spirit, and can not be subdued by further repression; it is imminently possible that the people of Hong Kong (and certain areas of China) have reached this point, particularly when the Chinese government appears to be completely tone deaf to their needs and concerns.

Everything, President Xi, has a life cycle; people; planets; and even governments; but this kind of repression, particularly at the point of exterminating protestors on live TV, cannot be allowed to stand, because it is doing nothing to address protestors' anger and rage, which is now causing them to act out, collectively, with little fear of future reprisals against them.

To be brutally honest, President Xi, you have one of two ways through which you can resolve this; the first is, take these demonstrations as a personal betrayal against you and your policies, and order your military to carpet bomb the place.

And yes, to answer the unasked question, it is a draconian approach to the problem: but the larger question for you and your colleagues in government here is, will it quell the rioting, or invite more of the same?!?

The second approach, which is going to be much harder, but may be absolutely the correct way to proceed, is to truly listen to these people, to discover why they are so furious as to risk bullets flying at them, to protest against a government which they feel, no longer represents them.

I would sincerely hope and pray, that you, and the rest of the Chinese government, take that second approach.

Alibaba Breaks 'Singles Day' Sales Record With $31 Billion Haul

Market strategists have repeatedly warned about the potential fallout from the collapse of retail sales in China, a trend that has already led to a recession in global auto sales, while Chinese factory output has also declined. But the economic doldrums facing the world's most populous country didn't stop Chinese consumers from posting a massive tab on Alibaba's Singles Day. In fact, according to CNBC, it was the largest haul in the 11-year history of Singles Day.

Across all of Alibaba's sales platforms (a group that includes both Alibaba's main website, the consumer-focused Tmall, and others), gross merchandise value (GMV) surpassed last year’s 213.5 billion yuan record (nearly $30.5 billion) on Monday afternoon local time, and kept rising through the rest of the day. At the close of the 24-hour Singles Day shopping event, sales surpassed last year's 213.5 billion yuan to log more than 215 billion yuan (or $30.7 billion) of purchases, BBG reports.

Russia’s Short March to Food Security

America used to be self-sufficient in food. It isn't any more. In event of a war with Russia and China,Americans will starve.

When I wrote my China’s long march to total food security NEO article last month, I had intended to dovetail it with Russia’s accomplishment of being more self-dependent on feeding its people. What they both shared was having to deal with US sanctions before they reached their goal.

Russia was hit with everything but the kitchen sink, with diplomatic sanctions initially and quickly moving into defense, energy and the financial arena, limiting access to foreign investment and attractive interest rate loans. Exxon Oil had to withdraw from some major Russian partnership deals, suffering big losses.

Hong Kong Student Dies From Injuries In First Fatality Linked To Protests

In what appears to be the first death of a protester stemming from the aggressive police tactics, a young student has died after sustaining a serious head injury during a fall from the third floor of a car park to the second while police carried out an aggressive dispersion operation to end a protest

According to the SCMP, Chow Tsz-lok, a second year computer science undergraduate student at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology fell from the car park in Tseung Kwan O as police fired off rounds of tear gas on Monday.

Pentagon Official Warns China Exporting Killer AI Drones To Middle East

US Defense Secretary Mark Esper warned during a speech on artificial intelligence at the National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence public conference Tuesday (Nov. 05) that China is exporting a series of "next-generation drones" to countries in the Middle East, reported Flight Global.

"Beijing has made it abundantly clear that it intends to be the world leader in AI by 2030," Esper said. "While the US faces a mighty task in transitioning the world's most advanced military to new AI-enabled systems, China believes it can leapfrog our current technology and go straight to the next generation."

Middle East countries banned from purchasing advanced US drones due to a weapons embargo are increasingly gravitating towards Chinese defense manufacturers.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Sec Def Ester, a question, please; IS NOT THE US GOVERNMENT DOING THE SAME THING RIGHT NOW?!?

And sir, if China's technology will enable it to "leapfrog" our current technology, can you please explain why this is possible, and that US weapons designers are not capable of doing better than this?!?

Substandard Education in America

The quality of American education, as we will see, is far lower than the world has been led to believe, and the quality in China is in many cases much superior to that in the US. Americans might care to ask why it is that Chinese elementary or high school students moving to the US are often promoted by one or two grades. The reason is that they know so much more than their American counterparts they would suffer terminal boredom if forced to remain at their prior grade level. If we refer to the PISA tests, Shanghai’s math scores were 119 above the OECD average, or the equivalent of nearly three years of schooling, with reading and science exceeding the OECD average by about 1.5 years of schooling. And in some cases, the American students were behind the OECD average by approximately the same number of years as the Chinese were ahead.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Folks, this cannot be seen in any possible light but that of a deliberate push by the US government to keep its people illiterate; innumerate; and incapable of critical thinking.

US Futures Jump To Record High After China Says US Agreed To Roll Back Tariffs

One day after there was relatively little "trade deal optimism", overnight futures surged to new all time highs when just after 2am ET, China's commerce ministry said - in what may well have been a trial balloon to test the White House's public response - that it had agreed with the US to roll back tariffs on each other’s goods in phases as the two nations work toward a trade deal, adding fuel to a "trade deal optimism" rally that is now spanning to its fifth straight day.

Stocks, Soybeans, & Yuan Suddenly Plunge On US-China Trade Deal Delay Headlines

US equity futures suddenly tumbled after Reuters reports that the signing of the US-China trade deal could be delayed until December as terms and the venue remain unclear.

Additionally, a senior official of the Trump administration told Reuters on Wednesday that it was still possible the "Phase One" agreement aimed at ending a damaging trade war would not be reached, but a deal was more likely than not.

Dozens of venues have been suggested for the meeting, which had originally been scheduled to take place on the sidelines of a now-canceled mid-November summit of Asia-Pacific leaders in Chile, the official said. They included sites in Europe and Asia, but the former was more likely, with Sweden and Switzerland among the possibilities.

Iowa, which Trump has suggested, appeared to have been ruled out, the official said. China's latest push for more tariff rollbacks would be discussed, but was not expected to derail progress toward an interim deal.

Webmaster's Commentary:

In the meanwhile, farmers who were counting on Trump's ability to make a difference here in his negotiations with China, are really feeling a world of hurt, right now; many have gone bankrupt, and can no longer take care of their families right now, and feel a deep sense of betrayal by Foggy Bottom.

Couple this with US land which has been unproductive, due to floods and fires, which used to produce food, and what we will most likely have next Spring, will be an under-ability to feed our citizens in this country.

What I would suggest that you do, is to look at buying an excellently-rated energy-efficient chest freezer, possibly right at the end of this year, right after Christmas. When things come on sale (or even if they don't and you can pare large packages of food down to smaller packages), you will thank yourself for having done this, when you see what food prices are look like, come 2020.

Watch: Chinese Social Credit Score Publicly Shames 'Bad Citizen' For Jaywalking

Authored by Paul Joseph Watson via Summit News,

A video out of China shows a citizen being publicly shamed and having his photo and ID card flashed up on a big screen for crossing the road on a red light.

The Communist country’s vast network of facial recognition surveillance cameras are being linked to citizen ID cards, producing the kind of dystopia that would make even George Orwell roll in his grave.

Under its social credit score system, China punishes people who criticize the government, as well as numerous other behaviors, including;

– Bad driving.
– Smoking on trains.
– Buying too many video games.
– Buying too much junk food.
– Buying too much alcohol.
– Calling a friend who has a low credit score .
– Having a friend online who has a low credit score.
– Posting “fake news” online.
– Visiting unauthorized websites.
– Walking your dog without a leash.
– Letting your dog bark too much.

According to the Global Times, China plans to establish an Earth-moon space economic zone by 2050, which is expected to generate $10 trillion worth of services per year. The zone will cover areas of space near Earth, the moon and in between.

Protesters vandalize Xinhua office, public property during night of violence

Hong Kong protesters have set fire to metro stations and vandalized buildings, including an office of China’s official news agency Xinhua, during a night of violent protests after Beijing vowed to tighten control over the restive city.

Police fired tear gas and water cannon Saturday as thousands of protesters defied authorities in another unsanctioned march.

Commercial districts on the main island turned into a battlefield as squads of black-clad protesters — many wearing face masks despite a recent ban on them — clashed for hours with riot police.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The timing on this could possibly be worse for China's President Xi; but I don't know how much. There was a secret meeting of China's government last week China's Top Political Body met in secret, and issued an ominous message to Hong Kong. The article goes on to state:

:Hong Kong has now been a thorn in the Chinese government’s side for more than four months.

Mass protests which began over a controversial China extradition law have grown into more violent demonstrations over fears around Beijing’s tightening grip on the important financial hub.

Until now, the Chinese government has been relatively restrained on the protests, stating their support for the Hong Kong government and their faith in local authorities to resolve the crisis.

But there have been hints of tougher action by Beijing if the demonstrations grew out of control or if they crossed any of the Communist Party’s “bottom lines.”

“Don’t ever misjudge the situation and mistake our restraint for weakness,” Yang Guang, spokesman for mainland China’s Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office, said in August.

It is almost certain that the situation in Hong Kong was widely discussed behind closed doors in Beijing during the fourth plenum this week but very little of that appears in the final communique.

“Hong Kong and Macao must be governed in strict accordance with the Constitution and the Basic Law, and the long-term prosperity and stability of Hong Kong and Macao should be safeguarded,” the statement said.

It then stated the need to “improve” the legal system and enforcement mechanism in Hong Kong and Macao.

That is likely to be a euphemism for enacting Hong Kong’s hugely controversial Article 23 national security law, according to Willy Lam, an adjunct professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and longtime analyst of Chinese politics."

The Middle East's New Post-Regime-Change Future

Authored by Matthew Ehret via The Strategic Culture Foundation,

With the transformation of the rules of the “Great Game” in the Middle East emerging out of President Trump’s recent Syrian surprise pullout and Putin’s brilliant manoeuvres since 2015, a sweeping set of development/reconstruction programs led by China now have a chance to become hegemonic across the formerly hopeless, terrorist-infested region.

The fact that the Arab states of the Middle East were targeted for destruction by western geopoliticians over the last 40 years is not un-connected to the region’s historic role as “cross-roads of civilizations” which were once the bridge between East and West along the ancient Silk Road (c. 250 BC). Today’s New Silk Road has brought 150 countries into a multipolar model of cooperation and civilization-building which necessitates a stabilized Middle East in order to function.

Pig Plague Starts Rippling Through American Meat Markets

U.S. meat markets had so far been shielded from the effects of a deadly pig disease wiping out Asian herds. That’s starting to change.

As pork supplies plummet in China, the world’s top consumer is desperate for meat and is ramping up imports. As a result, it’s becoming harder to set longer-term protein contracts amid concerns over market volatility and changing trade flows, according to Jayson Penn, chief executive officer of Pilgrim’s Pride Corp., the No. 2 U.S. chicken producer.

“The contracting season is moving somewhat slower this year” for chicken, Penn said on a conference call with analysts following the release of third-quarter earnings. While major fast food restaurant chains are looking for beef contracts, “there are not many sellers willing to forward price,” he said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I would like to politely suggest, that if our readers/listeners do not currently have a freezer, you might want to think about getting one right now, possibly splitting the cost with a friend or family member.

Because of illnesses, and non-planting in those states ravaged by rain and/or fires, food prices next year, will be very intense; the time to plan for this contingency, is right the heck now. I would almost be willing to bet this will be a really saving grace for people as spring comes up in 2020.

India, US Officially Suspend Defense Cooperation

Submitted by GreatGameIndia, a journal on Geopolitics and International Relations.

In a major development brewing for sometime now, India and US have officially suspended Defense Cooperation after Americans refused to give India high-end jet-engine technology. At the heart of the Indo-US Strategic Partnership is what is known as the Defense Technology and Trade Initiative or DTTI. Under the 2012 DTTI, India and the US set up joint working groups (JWGs) for cooperation on aircraft carriers and jet engine technology, all of the 4 pathfinder projects have now been shutdown. The move comes days after former US Secretary of State and National Security Adviser Henry Kissinger’s visit to India.

Webmaster's Commentary:

(Sigh) Dear Trump Administration; your timing could have possibly been worse on this issue, but I do not know how.

The festering relationship between India and Pakistan, over the status of Kashmir, appears to be coming to a head; both are nuclear armed countries.

We see this, published just a couple of weeks ago from the asiaforum.com:

China remains Pakistan’s key partner
12 October 2019
The article goes on to state:

'While meeting with a visiting Chinese military delegation led by General Xu Qiliang, Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan termed ties with China an ‘anchor for regional stability’. The visit of the military delegation came amidst rising India–Pakistan tensions over India’s unilateral revocation of Article 370 of the Indian Constitution, stripping Indian-controlled Kashmir of its autonomy. The action led to a series of measures by China and Pakistan, again proving China to be Pakistan’s irreplaceable ally.'

IF in fact, the above is true, where do you think that India will go for their nuclear control switches?!? Russia, perhaps?!?

And are you thoroughly unable to fathom the fact that when the US pulls away on something like these controls, nature abhors a vacuum, and there will be another country more than willing to help india achieve its goal, legally, or illegally?

Beijing Slams "Slandering, Arrogant" Pence Speech: "Look In The Mirror" And "Get Your Racist House In Order"

Vice President Mike Pence was called on once again to play the 'bad cop' in Washington's negotiations with China yesterday when he delivered an aggressive speech blasting Beijing's record on human rights. As noted yesterday, in a twice-delayed hawkish speech, Pence defended the pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong, while slamming both Nike and the NBA for kowtowing to Beijing.

Predictably, Beijing struck back on Friday, blasting the US's endemic racism and other problems that have "cast aside its morality and credibility." Hua Chunying, a spokeswoman for China’s foreign ministry, slammed Pence's "arrogance", and insisted that nothing could halt China's development. She also accused Pence of trying to disrupt China’s "unity or internal stability" and said Hong Kong, Taiwan and the far west region of Xinjiang are "internal affairs" that are none of Washington's business, according to Bloomberg.

Webmaster's Commentary:

(Sigh) Vice-President Pence, a word, sir, please; I seem to have read a Biblical injunction about "taking the moat out of one own's eye, before removing it from someone else's" (this can actually be found as follows: Matthew 7:5)

The US record on human rights, both at home and abroad, has not been stellar, and I hate it when someone who's political system I despise, does hit the nail on the head, as has this person, Ms. Hua Chunying, done.

Ethnic tensions, particularly in our inner cities, still run horrifically high; a gold standard for education, which educates all of our kids to be numerate, literate, good with money, and brilliantly capable of critical thinking, is just not there.

The only thing our kids seem to be groomed for, is how to be content consumers, of both the political codswallop they are force-fed, and wanting "stuff" which will inevitably put them into an horrific debt situation, which their leadership extols as the "new normal."

And please do not have the inimitable gall and hubris, Mr. Vice President, of calling China "racist", when our inner city kids bear the brunt of some really bad decisions made in the Bowels of Power in DC, which include wars for economic gain, in which many of them have fought, and will be fighting, due to the "economic draft" they face, because they never got the skills in school to get out of that trap.

And the hell of this is, sir, that you know that you and your cronies are completely satisfied that it will never be YOUR kids who will have to go through this "economic draft" because of the huge power of sheer nepotism nearly all of you can wave at the world, and have them do your bidding.

Just ask Hunter and Joe Biden about that, if you do not believe me, sir.

GOOGLE COULD USE INTERNAL SURVEILLANCE TOOL TO MONITOR WORKER DISSENT AND LABOR ORGANIZING, EMPLOYEES WARN

Workers at Google say the company is developing an internal surveillance system that could be used to monitor the behavior of employees, and thwart dissent and labor organizing.

The company says they’re only trying to make it easier for workers to manage their internal Google calendars and manage meeting spam.

Trump to lift Turkey sanctions as he claims ALL credit for Syria border de-escalation

The Border crossing between Iraq and Syria is now open. In due time the US base at Al Tanf will be closed and evacuated and we will be out of Syria.
Russia,Iraq and Iran will have access to the Med. China will build railroad and highway links and pipelines through Syria to the Med and another part of the Silk Road will be completed.

US President Donald Trump says he’ll lift sanctions on Turkey, unless he’s “not happy” with its actions in northern Syria, as he took complete credit for “saving” of Kurds, claiming the outcome was created by “no other nation."

Trump said Turkey had confirmed that it would make an earlier five-day ceasefire permanent and that it was holding "very well" so far.

He said the US would welcome the help of other countries in dealing with the conflict, adding that a "small number" of US troops would remain in the area "where they have the oil."

China's $3.6 Billion Bailout Insulates Turkey From US

Authored by 'Spengler' via The Asia Times,

Beijing’s biggest support package ever for President Erdogan arrives at a critical time...

Despite the US threat to “obliterate and destroy” Turkey’s economy, the Turkish lira and Turkish interest rates barely have budged in the past week (Turkish stocks, especially banks, are down sharply, in part due to the US criminal charges against Halkbank for aiding Iran sanctions violations). That is remarkable given the fragility of Turkey’s currency earlier in 2019. Between February and May, the Turkish lira fell from 5.2 to the US dollar to 6.2 in response to US sanctions, before recovering to 5.88 to the dollar today. The Turkish central bank leaned on Turkish banks to refrain from offering liquidity to short-sellers, but Turkish money markets remained orderly.

China Bans Exports Of Black Clothing To Hong Kong Amid Escalating Social Unrest

Over the last 24 hours, several reports have surfaced, one from the South China Morning Post (SCMP), and another from Reuters, are now detailing new export bans that Beijing has enacted from mainland China to Hong Kong, which explicitly states shipping couriers and or customs will halt all black clothing and other items used by pro-democracy protesters.

Service workers at China's top shipping couriers (STO Express, ZTO Express, and YTO Express) told Reuters this week that China banned bulk shipments of black clothing from mainland China to Hong Kong late last month.

One worker from STO Express told Reuters that black clothing, five items or less, could be shipped from mainland China to Hong Kong, but any more would be considered bulk and would be returned to the sender.

He said bulk items of masks, riot gear, umbrellas, helmets, and sticks, were also on the export ban list.

Webmaster's Commentary:

For the Chinese government, these actions are like trying to stop a hemorrhage with a band-aid; President Xi understands the presence of a 24/7 news cycle, and it appears that he is desperately attempting to calm the real anger down of those demonstrating, without incidents starting to look like Tianamen Square on steroids, but is incapable of addressing/correcting the actual reasons for this anger.
