A Bad Copyright Bill Moves Forward With No Serious Understanding of Its Dangers

By Katharine Trendacosta

The Senate Judiciary Committee voted on the Copyright Alternative in Small-Claims Enforcement Act, aka the CASE Act. This was without any hearings for experts to explain the huge flaws in the bill as it’s currently written. And flaws there are.

During the vote in the Senate Judiciary Committee, it was once again stressed that the CASE Act—which would turn the Copyright Office into a copyright traffic court—created a “voluntary” system. “Voluntary” does not accurately describe the regime of the CASE Act...

US Democrats remove ‘occupation’ from two-state solution resolution

A US House Democrat’s resolution in support of the two-state solution has been amended to remove references to the Israeli occupation and settlement activity, reports the Times of Israel. The amended bill also claims attempts by Palestinians to achieve statehood outside of negotiations with Israel as is unacceptable.

In April, California Democrat Alan Lowenthal introduced House Resolution 326, a symbolic resolution that reaffirmed the US’ commitment to resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict through a two-state solution.

The original text highlighted “the special relationship between the US and Israel” and how the US “remains unwavering in its commitment to help Israel address the myriad challenges it faces.” It also mentioned the long history of US presidents seeking a two-state solution and how “delays to a political solution… pose a threat to the ability to maintain a Jewish and democratic state of Israel.”

Money Laundering Fines Worth Billions Help Bankers Avoid Prosecution and Unpleasant Labels

By Lubomir Tassev

The recent seizure of a cargo ship owned by JP Morgan, a vessel loaded with 20 tons of cocaine according to latest accounts, highlighted the risks of banks’ involvement in illicit activities, inadvertent or otherwise. And although U.S. authorities released the MSC Gayane after the owner, JP Morgan’s asset management arm, and the operator, Mediterranean Shipping Company, paid a $50M in cash and surety bond, the stain remains and this is not the only stain. Money laundering for drug cartels and moving funds for terrorists, arms dealers and dictatorial regimes are among the sins banks have accumulated through the years. However, court settlements and billions of dollars in fines often help major financial institutions avoid prosecution, conviction, and labels like ‘Drugbanks.’...

Demonocracy: The Great Human Scourge!

One cannot speak too highly of Christophe Buffin de Chosal’s The End of Democracy. In a fast paced, readable, yet scholarly fashion, Professor Buffin de Chosal* demolishes the ideological justification in which modern democracy rests while he describes the disastrous effects that democratic rule has had on Western societies. He explodes the myth of Democracy as a protector of individual liberty, a prerequisite for economic progress, and a promoter of the higher arts. Once Democracy is seen in this light, a far more accurate interpretation of modern history can be undertaken. The book is a very suitable companion to Hans-Hermann Hoppe’s iconoclastic take down of democracy in Democracy: The God That Failed, released at the beginning of this century. Buffin de Chosal has spoken of a follow up which will be eagerly awaited for.

Impeachment caucus forms: Rep’s rogue resolution reveals scores of Dems gunning for Trump

A doomed attempt to bring articles of impeachment against President Trump failed miserably Wednesday night as expected, but the roll call put scores of Democrats on record in support of at least keeping the effort alive -- revealing that bloc has grown substantially in recent months.

Even as Democratic leaders have pushed back against impeachment proceedings at this stage, more and more prominent members -- including the freshman firebrands who were the targets of Trump's Twitter ire over the weekend -- have supported the drive. Wednesday’s resolution was brought by Rep. Al Green, D-Texas, who repeatedly has sought to impeach Trump.

"The president has committed an impeachable offense," Green said on the House floor Wednesday. "Yesterday, we condemned him for that. Today is our opportunity to punish him."

Ilhan Omar Introduces Pro-BDS Resolution, Something Pelosi Has Called ‘Bigoted’ and ‘Dangerous’

Liberal Media Melts Down When Trump Brings Up Allegations That Omar Married Her Own Brother

President Trump, responding to a question from a reporter, suggested he had heard stories that Rep. Ilhan Omar married her own brother in an attempt to skirt immigration laws.

The media responded by going into full meltdown mode, coming to Omar’s defense and suggesting the President had just dabbled in more wild conspiracy theories. Not as wild as the Russian collusion hoax, but wild nonetheless.

Jul 18 10:18

Confirmed: Ilhan Omar DID marry her brother to cheat immigration system as White House petition demands investigation into her “loyalty” to the U.S.

The various controversies surrounding Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) just won’t go away, thanks to some old-fashioned intrepid reporting from some gumshoe journalists.

You may recall that around the time Omar was elected in November to her first congressional term, rumors/reports swirled that she actually married her brother as a way to "skirt immigration laws," according to the Star Tribune newspaper serving Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minn.

In June the paper reported that new "investigative documents" that were released by a state agency reignited "lingering questions" about Omar’s "marital history." The paper noted:

Omar has denied the allegations in the past, dismissing them as "baseless rumors" first raised in an online Somali politics forum and championed by conservative bloggers during her 2016 campaign for the Minnesota House. But she said little then or since about Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, the former husband who swept into her life in 2009 before a 2011 separation.

Trump’s Fight With The Fed Over Interest Rates Is A Scripted Farce

Op-Ed by Brandon Smith

There is a very bizarre narrative being circulated in the mainstream economic media and it goes a little something like this:

“The Federal Reserve has capitulated on liquidity tightening yet the US economy is ‘stronger than ever’, isn’t that weird?”

There are a couple things wrong with this statement. First, the Fed has not yet capitulated on its tightening policy. In fact, we have been hearing since last November from the mainstream media and some alternative media that the Fed was going to lower its Fed Funds Rate and end monthly balance sheet cuts at “any moment”, yet several months later it still has not happened...

Joe Biden Was Much More Than a Cheerleader for the Iraq War

During the 2008 presidential primary debates, Barack Obama reminded Americans that unlike Hillary Clinton, he did not support the war in Iraq. As Politico wrote at the time, Obama implied that Clinton’s yes vote showed “bad judgement.” Eight years later, Donald Trump used Clinton’s Iraq War vote against her multiple times, including in the third presidential debate. Whether or not he lied about his own contradictory record on the war was beside the point. Twice, a yes vote for an unpopular war proved to be a liability for the candidate who cast it.

The Iraq war continues to be an issue in the lead-up to the 2020 election. Joe Biden may now be the Democratic frontrunner for the presidential nomination, but as Branko Marcetic writes in In These Times, Biden’s “2002 vote in favor of the Iraq War leaves him with a particularly glaring vulnerability.”

House To Vote On Impeachment Today

Impeachment has been discussed by Democrats for a long time but this is the first time they have decided to vote on it, NBC reported.

It’s unclear whether the House will vote to send the resolution to committee, to table it — effectively killing the measure — or vote to proceed forward with it.

In addition, the House will vote Wednesday to hold U.S. Attorney General William Barr and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross in criminal contempt of Congress for withholding information about the administration’s failed bid to add a citizenship question to the 2020 census.

'Poison of America': Bill on slavery reparations gains backing from Sen. Chuck Schumer

Calling racism the "poison of America," Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer gave his support Tuesday to a bill to set up a commission to study reparations.

"The disparities in race affect everything, not just the obvious things, but the non-obvious things” like pollution and climate change, Schumer explained.

The bill, proposed by Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey and Texas Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee would form a commission to study ways to make an apology for slavery and make payments to the descendants of slaves. Booker and Jackson Lee introduced the measure in April 2019.

“The legacy of slavery and Jim Crow are still with us,’’ Schumer told a small group of reporters in the U.S. Capitol.

EPSTEIN – BAIL HEARING – IF CLINTON APPOINTEE JUDGE BERMAN RELEASES EPSTEIN BECAUSE BERMAN WAS BRIBED, HE SHOULD NEVER BE ABLE TO SPEND A DIME OF THAT BRIBE & IF BLACKMAILED – THEN WHAT?

Consider this; Steve Piesczenik (link below), former long time U.S. State Department official says that Epstein was part of a Mossad operation. What is Mossad? It is Israel’s equivalent of America’s NSA (National Security Agency), you know the people behind private spying operations like Facebook and Google. But hold on; Epstein is Jewish also! Now, the judge hearing Epstein’s bail case is named Berman – definitely Jewish. Do you think the fix is in? Berman was appointed by (get ready) Bill Clinton! Could it be that Berman is a participant in the pedophile network?

Connection between Judge Chhabria and Monsanto?

Chhabria has a pretty stellar background. Born and raised in California, he obtained his law degree in 1998 from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, graduating with honors. He served as law clerk for two federal judges and for Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer and worked as an associate for two law firms before joining the San Francisco City Attorney’s Office where he worked from 2005 to 2013. He was nominated by President Obama for the seat he holds now in the summer of 2013.

But interestingly, one of those law firms where Chhabria worked has raised eyebrows. Covington & Burling, LLP, is a well-known defender of a variety of corporate interests, including Monsanto Co. Covington was reportedly instrumental in helping Monsanto defend itself against dairy industry concerns over the company’s synthetic bovine growth hormone supplement, known as rBGH (for recombinant bovine growth hormone) or the brand name Posilac.

Why are progressive Democrats backing an anti-BDS bill that was introduced at an AIPAC conference?

On July 17, the House Foreign Affairs Committee will begin to mark up a number of measures including a resolution that condemns the Global Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Movement (BDS Movement). Despite concerns about the bill being constitutional, it’s currently supported by 70% of the Democratic Caucus.

AIPAC and friends slam IfNotNow as ‘anti-Israel’ for asking Democratic candidates about ‘the occupation’

As we reported, the young Jews of IfNotNow are doing what many activists have long called for: they are making Palestine an issue in the Democratic race by posting videos of young people asking candidates if they would bring pressure on Israel to end the occupation. The group has gotten evasive answers from Joe Biden and Beto O’Rourke; a No from Cory Booker; a Yes from Pete Buttigieg; and nervous affirmation from Elizabeth Warren.

The big surprise of the IfNotNow campaign is how much rage it is provoking from the Israel lobby, which has long had a place inside the Democratic Party.

The group Democratic Majority for Israel has issued a “WARNING” to Democratic candidates that a “strongly anti-Israel organization” is having young people “run up to” candidates and ambush them with an occupation question, before “trumpet”-ing the politicians’ answer on-line. (Ah, democracy.)

Trump Fuels a Tribal War in Nancy's House

President Donald Trump’s playground taunt Sunday that “the Squad” of four new radical liberal House Democrats, all women of color, should “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime-infested places from which they came,” dominated Monday morning’s headlines.

Yet those headlines smothered the deeper story.

The Democrats are today using language to describe their own leaders that is similar to the language of the 1960s radicals who denounced Democratic segregationist governors like Ross Barnett and George Wallace.

Consider what the four women have been saying.

TRUMP MAY APPOINT FRINGE NEOCON TO HEAD INTELLIGENCE

It keeps getting worse. The neocons have burrowed termite-deep inside the Trump administration and rumor has it the president will add yet another one to an important cabinet position.

If there is any substance to the latest rumors, DNI Dan Coats will be replaced by Fred Fleitz, former NSC executive secretary, CIA analyst, Trump Chief of Staff, Bolton enforcer, and CEO of the Center for Security Policy.

This last one should send up a huge red flag. CSP is a project launched by Frank Gaffney Jr., an Islamophobe way out on the neocon fringe. During the Trump presidential campaign, I wrote a short ebook (Donald Trump and the War on Islam) about Gaffney, among other neocons and rabid Israel-firsters exacting a corrosive influence on the Trump campaign.

TOP FBI, DOJ OFFICIALS USE DRUG-CARTEL-STYLE BURNER PHONES TO DODGE FEDERAL INVESTIGATORS, LAWMAKERS

Members of the FBI and Justice Department’s top brass at their Washington D.C.headquarters and other field offices are now using burner phones to stay under the radar of federal investigators and lawmakers, according to FBI insiders.

The shocking revelations come on the heels of news that the FBI deleted thousands of text messages between anti-Trump FBI agents before investigators could review their content.

While that is disturbing on one level, FBI and DOJ hierarchy employing the telecom habits of drug cartel bosses reaches a new low for the once-heralded federal law enforcement agency and the DOJ. And breaks federal laws as well.

FBI's spreadsheet puts a stake through the heart of Steele's dossier

Some in the news media have tried in recent days to rekindle their long-lost love affair with former MI6 agent Christopher Steele and his now infamous dossier.

But lest anyone be tempted to think Steele’s 2016 dossier is about to be mysteriously revived as credible, consider this: Over months of work, FBI agents painstakingly researched every claim Steele made about Trump’s possible collusion with Russia, and assembled their findings into a spreadsheet-like document.

The over-under isn’t flattering to Steele.

Multiple sources familiar with the FBI spreadsheet tell me the vast majority of Steele’s claims were deemed to be wrong, or could not be corroborated even with the most awesome tools available to the U.S. intelligence community. One source estimated the spreadsheet found upward of 90 percent of the dossier’s claims to be either wrong, nonverifiable or open-source intelligence found with a Google search.

In other words, it was mostly useless.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The Dementocrats are going to try to hold this over President Trump's head, right though to the next election.

However, in light of the reality that he has done everything for big business, and the military industrial complex he possibly could do, with the wars continuing, and looking to get "hotter" in various areas of the world, I seriously doubt that the Dems can come up with a candidate who can carry the next election on their shoulders.

IMPLOSION! Beto O’Rourke Pulls 0.0% In Major Presidential Poll!

Sure, most of the 24 candidates running for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination are really just vying for a place on the ticket as the vice presidential nominee, but one candidate has imploded so badly that he might not even be able to snag that dubious honor.

In a new poll from Saint Anselm College in New Hampshire, a prominent survey that measures the mood of registered voters in America’s first primary state, former Rep. Robert “Beto” O’Rourke pulled in 0.0% of the vote.

We were so confused we had to call the New Hampshire Institute of Politics at the college to find out why O’Rourke’s name didn’t appear on the list at all.

“The question was open-ended and no one said his name,” said a spokeswoman at the Institute.

BREAKING: Speaker Pelosi Violates House Rules After She Walks Off Floor – House Votes to Strike Her Comments on Trump From the Record

Republican Congressman Doug Collins (GA) challenged Speaker Pelosi on Tuesday as she spoke in favor of condemning Trump’s “racist” tweets from the House floor.

“There’s no excuse for any response to those words but a swift and strong unified condemnation. Every single member of this institution, Democratic and Republican, should join us in condemning the president’s racist tweets. To do anything less would be a shocking rejection of our values, and a shameful abdication of our oath of office to protect the American people. I urge a unanimous vote, and yield back the balance of my time,” Pelosi said.

Rep. Collins demanded that Pelosi’s remarks be “taken down,” in an extraordinary rebuke of the House Speaker Tuesday afternoon.

Rep. Collins’ challenge to Pelosi was bold and was the first of its kind in decades — his rebuke of the Speaker could actually result in Pelosi being barred from speaking on the House floor for the rest of the day.

Escalating tensions on Capitol Hill erupted into a contentious floor fight in the House of Representatives on Tuesday afternoon, as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi spoke in favor of a proposed resolution condemning "racist" comments by President Trump -- even as Republican leaders stood steadfast behind the president.

When Pelosi's remarks turned personal, Georgia Republican Rep. Doug Collins rose to challenge her and demand that her words be "taken down." The extraordinary rebuke, the first of its kind involving a member of Congress and a speaker of the House in decades, theoretically could result in Pelosi being barred from speaking on the floor for the remainder of the day.
