Warning: Suspicious Clintonites Rattle Sabers at Russia over Ukraine. War to Come?

In the proceeding week, the news had been occupied with a snowstorm that threatened to paralyze the U.S. Northeast; militant attacks, hostage situations, and death threats all involving Islamists; alleged NFL team cheating with soft footballs; chit chat over the upcoming Super Bowl; and, of course, the event itself on Sunday. It drew an unprecedented audience of 114.5 million viewers.

Then, the next day, with little build-up, whamo, the big story was Ukraine. It hit like a bombshell.

What had happened overnight to ramp up all this news furor? Nothing that I could see.

But it was a time for an opportunist to have a field day. The Super Bowl distraction was out of the news. In its wake there was a big vacuum waiting to be filled. And so, bingo, there was an instant, big story about Ukraine.

Washington Moves Toward Arming Ukrainian Regime

On Monday, the New York Times announced that the Obama administration is moving to directly arm the Ukrainian army and the fascistic militias supporting the NATO-backed regime in Kiev, after its recent setbacks in the offensive against pro-Russian separatist forces in east Ukraine.

German Chancellor Rules Out Weapons Aid to Ukraine

Chancellor Angela Merkel on Monday ruled out any German supply of weapons to Ukraine, but emphasized that Europe must stay united against Russian aggression.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So, while trying not to offend the US war party, Merkel is saying Germany doesn't want yet another World War fought on their front lawns. Twice is enough, thankyouverymuch. Go find somewhere else to play! This means that arming Ukraine will be seen as a unilateral move on the part of the US, forever affixing blame for starting WW3.

NATO confirms plans to open training center in Georgia

The alliance also plans to hold military drills in Georgia starting this year, its spokesman told a news briefing ahead of NATO defense ministers meeting in Brussels on February 5.

The issue would be discussed at a session of the NATO-Georgia Commission, due to be held in the Belgian capital during the defense ministers’ meeting, the spokesman said.

He added that the alliance also planned to hold military drills in Georgia starting this year.

"NATO will hold exercises in Georgia this year," he said. "We will hold periodic military exercises in Georgia as part of our cooperation with that country next year."

Ukraine Shelling Hits Hospital In Rebel-Held Donetsk

Heavy shelling in the rebel stronghold of Donetsk in eastern Ukraine on Wednesday afternoon killed at least five people and damaged a hospital, six schools and five kindergartens, local officials said.

The fighting between Russia-backed separatists and government troops in eastern Ukraine resumed in January after a month of relative calm, killing more than 200 people in the past three weeks, according to the United Nations.

The city hall in Donetsk said the number of casualties from Wednesday's shelling in the west part of Donetsk early afternoon was not immediately established but the rebel-run Donetsk News Agency reported five killed inside and near the hospital in Tekstilshchik district.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I believe that the shelling of hospitals (as well as the shelling of residential complexes) qualifies as war crimes; looks as though Ukrainian military commanders are taking a page from the IDF playbook

After all, the IDF bombs Palestinian hospitals and schools with impunity.

Another Conspiracy Theory Becomes Fact: The Entire Oil Collapse Is All About Crushing Russian Control Over Syria

... while we understand if Saudi Arabia is employing a dumping strategy to punish the Kremlin as per the "deal" with Obama's White House, very soon there will be a very vocal, very insolvent and very domestic shale community demanding answers from the Obama administration, as once again the "costs" meant to punish Russia end up crippling the only truly viable industry under the current presidency.

As a reminder, the last time Obama threatened Russia with "costs", he sent Europe into a triple-dip recession.

It would truly be the crowning achievement of Obama's career if, amazingly, he manages to bankrupt the US shale "miracle" next.

Are These Guys Clinically Insane? No, They're From Wall Street

U.S.-Russia Clash in Ukraine?

Among Cold War presidents, from Truman to Bush I, there was an unwritten rule: Do not challenge Moscow in its Central and Eastern Europe sphere of influence.

In crises over Berlin in 1948 and 1961, the Hungarian Revolution in 1956 and the Warsaw Pact invasion of Prague in 1968, U.S. forces in Europe stayed in their barracks.

We saw the Elbe as Moscow’s red line, and they saw it as ours.

While Reagan sent weapons to anti-Communist rebels in Angola, Nicaragua and Afghanistan, to the heroic Poles of Gdansk he sent only mimeograph machines.

That Cold War caution and prudence may be at an end.

US sending weapons to Kiev ‘not the answer’ to Ukraine crisis – White House adviser

Supplying more arms to the Ukrainian government won’t solve the crisis in the country, a senior Obama administration official said. It comes after reports that some figures in the White House are advocating such a move.

“We don’t think the answer to the crisis in Ukraine is simply to inject more weapons,” deputy national security adviser Ben Rhodes told CNN on Monday.

Instead, “the best way” lies through imposing more economic sanctions on Russia, the White House official added.

U.S. taking new look at giving arms to Ukraine forces - NYT

President Barack Obama's administration is taking a new look at providing Ukrainian forces with defensive weapons and equipment in the face of a rebel offensive that shattered a five-month truce, the New York Times reported on Sunday.

The newspaper quoted U.S. officials as saying Secretary of State John Kerry and U.S. Joint Chiefs Chairman Martin Dempsey were open to discussions of the idea and that NATO military commander General Philip Breedlove now supported providing such lethal aid.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Such a move would be tantamount to declaring war against Russia.

Kerry Cancels Plan to Visit Putin in Moscow

Secretary of State John Kerry has canceled unannounced plans to visit Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow next week, a U.S. official told ABC News.

The two were expected to discuss the crisis in Ukraine, where the United States blames Russia for arming and funding the separatist forces. The U.S. has also accused Russia of sending its troops across the border to bolster the rebels. Russia has denied the accusations.

The decision to cancel the visit came just days after an alleged Russian spy ring was broken up in New York, and after last weekend’s offensive by Russian-backed rebels in eastern Ukraine. This week, Treasury Secretary Jack Lew suggested the United States could expand sanctions on Russia as the fighting in Ukraine continues.

Kerry is still expected to attend next week’s Munich Security Conference, and the possibility remains he may meet his Russian counterpart, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, there.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Sanctions are most generally a prelude to war.

Globalism Wins as Israel Plans “Free Trade” With Putin, Beijing

As the world is increasingly divided up into geographic “regions” under regional regimes cobbled together under the guise of pseudo-“free trade,” Israeli authorities are now quietly working to create what they call “free trade zones” with both the Communist Chinese regime and the Kremlin-dominated Eurasian Economic Union (member countries shown in green). The negotiations, officially announced this week, come as globalist plotters around the world accelerate their now-open efforts to subvert national sovereignty at a regional level — all on the road toward what top officials from Beijing and Moscow to London and Washington, D.C., regularly and openly refer to as their “New World Order.”

Ukraine "Truce"? Tanks Are Rolling In Poland As NATO Plans Permanent Eastern European Bases

With Ukraine, Germany, and France all expressing their concern this morning about "conflict escalation" between pro-Russian separatists and the Ukraine military, the so-called "truce" appears to be hanging by a thread of semanticism (despite OSCE's please for respect of the cease-fire and the demarcation line). Today's triple whammy of 'escalation' appears more focused on the non-Russian side as first, France begins sending tanks into Poland; second, Ukraine shifts its tanks to the front-line; and third - and potentially most inflammatory for Putin - NATO has confirmed plans to create permanent command centers in Eastern Europe. Putin has not responded yet but reports of 'nuclear bombers' flying above the English Channel "with transponders turned off," suggests the sabre rattling continues.

Ukraine’s Government Is Losing Its War. Here Is Why!

On January 27th, Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense headlined “Militants Continue to Suffer Losses,” and reported that four helicopters, and other weapons of the “militants,” were destroyed in battle, but no evidence was given to support the assertion.

Just two days prior, the (also pro-Government) Kiev Post had, in fact, bannered “Ukraine Hides Devastating Losses as Russia-Backed Fighters Surge Forward,” and reported “Ukraine’s worst-kept secret — that the Ukrainian army is drastically understating its casualties.” After detailing, there, what seems to be outrageous unconcern by the Government, for the welfare of troops it’s sending into battle (even by jamming battlefield-injured soldiers into regular civilian hospitals, which aren’t equipped to handle their injuries), this report ends with a doctor saying, “It’s bad everywhere. Yes, the soldiers are still standing at their positions ready to fight. But we don’t see any help coming for them.”

Russian aggression and the BBC’s drums of nuclear war

The drums of war are beating on the BBC and other mass media, writes Oliver Tickell – naked propaganda about fictitious ‘Russian aggression’ intended to soften us up for a war that could wipe out life on Earth.
We must refuse to fall for the endlessly repeated lies, and tell our politicians that our highest priority of all is peace.

Webmaster's Commentary:

My reply to BBC and indeed all corporate media. Feel free to use as a template for your own emails.

Corporate media assured us that the USS Main was sunk by a Spanish mine in Havana Harbor, even though Captain Sigsbee reported the cause as an on-board fire. This story of a Spanish mine by the corporate media allowed President McKinley to trick the American people into the Spanish American war. An investigation carried out by Admiral Hyman G. Rickover, the father of America's Nuclear Navy, confirmed Sigbee's report. There had been no Spanish mine.

Corporate media assured us that the Lusitania was not carrying weapons when it was sunk by a German U-Boat, even though the German government had taken out ads in the New York papers warning passengers not to sail on that ship. This story of the sinking of an innocent passenger ship allowed President Woodrow Wilson to trick the American people into World War 1 and divert the war from the original belligerents, Austria-Hungary and Serbia, into a war against Germany. In the 1980s, divers entered the hold of the Lusitania and confirmed it had been smuggling weapons of war to Britain.

Corporate media assured us that North Vietnam launched a torpedo attack against the USS Maddox in the Gulf of Tonkin in August 4th, 1964. Even though Captain Herrick reported that the sonar detection of torpedoes by the Maddox had been an error by an inexperienced sonar operator, the claim of a torpedo attack allowed President Johnson to trick Congress into escalating the Vietnam war.

Corporate media assured is Saddam Hussein had nuclear weapons. Need I say more?

So why would anyone believe the corporate media today when they assure us Russia has invaded Ukraine?

Greece Is Now a Russia Sanctions Veto. Merkel Is Foaming at the Mouth

Two days ago, Zero Hedge first, and shortly thereafter everyone else, pointed out something stunning: the biggest surprise to emerge so far out of the new anti-Troika/austerity Greek government was not so much its intention to proceed with the first test of "Odious Debt" - this was largely known in advance - but its dramatic pivot away from Germany and Europe, and toward Russia.

As we noted before, not only has Greece already blocked all ongoing privatization processes, a clear snub of Merkel and the Troika which demands the piecemeal blue light special sale of Greece to western buyers as part of the "bailout", but is also looking at plans to reinstate public sector employees and announce increased pensions for those on low incomes: further clear breaches of the Troika's austerity terms.

Ukrainian Government: “No Russian Troops Are Fighting Against Us”

Ukraine’s top general is contradicting allegations by the Obama Administration and by his own Ukrainian Government, by saying that no Russian troops are fighting against the Ukrainian Government’s forces in the formerly Ukrainian, but now separatist, area, where the Ukrainian civil war is being waged.

Here is a screen-print of a google-chrome auto-translation of that statement:

Ukraine Is "Pressing" Obama For $3 Billion In Financial Aid

It would appear Gazprom has once again come knocking for payment - or else. As Bloomberg reports, Ukraine is pressing the Obama administration to provide political support, as much as $3b in financial aid and “non-lethal weapons,” with the goal of some progress by the end of February, Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Vadym Prystaiko says. Of course, given Europe's agreement to further sanction Russia (asEU agrees more "punitive" steps are now possible) President Obama will be happy to lend Ukraine more American taxpayer money (despite the market's perception that Ukraine's default probability is over 80% - six year highs).

Webmaster's Commentary:

The government cannot afford to help heat the homes of Americans during this brutal winter, but can pay for Ukraine's gas bill?

GMO Crops for Ukraine: The West’s Agri-Business Conglomerates Snap up Ukraine’s Bread Basket

The stakes around Ukraine’s vast agricultural sector – the world’s third-largest exporter of corn and fifth-largest exporter of wheat – could not be higher. Ukraine is known for its ample fields of rich black soil, and the country boasts more than 32 million hectares of fertile, arable land – the equivalent of one-third of the entire arable land in the European Union.

The maneuvering for control over the country’s agricultural system is a pivotal factor in the struggle that has been taking place over the last year in the greatest East-West confrontation since the Cold War.

Russia’s Nuclear Weapons Upgraded, U.S. Missile Defense Can’t Stop Them, Claim Russians

Both the Russian and U.S. military continue to stoke World War 3 fears, with a Russian deputy prime minister now claiming that Russia’s nuclear weapons cannot be stopped by U.S. missile defense systems in the event the new Cold War becomes hot.

Webmaster's Commentary:

And he is correct. The US missile defense system is built around the doctrine of inbound threats following predictable ballistic arcs. But both Russia and China now have maneuverable warheads and upper stages that make such interception impossible.

Russia says Kiev's actions will escalate Ukraine fighting

Russia said on Wednesday military action by the Ukrainian government would prompt an "inevitable further escalation of the conflict" with pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine and undermine any peacemaking.

Russia has stepped up criticism of Kiev since violence has intensified in the conflict, where a ceasefire collapsed after rebels drove Ukrainian government forces out of Donetsk airport.

Soros as Kiev’s Central Banker and Ridiculous US Laws

If it comes to pass, and it cannot unfortunately be ruled out, recent media rumors say that naturalized US billionaire hedge fund speculator and philosopher, George Soros, a very weary-looking 84-year-old who continues to try to weaken the Russian economy as he did back in 1998, might become the head of the Ukrainian National Bank in Kiev. Soros as head of any central bank in my view is putting the old fox to guard the hen-house. That would complete a quartet of foreign technocrats that clearly would do no good to the shattered real economy of Ukraine nor to peace in the world.

Russian Navy ‘forces US submarine out’ of Arctic boundary waters

A supposed US submarine was detected and “forced out” by the Russian anti-sub forces after it violated the country’s boundary waters in the Arctic, a high-ranked source within the Russian Navy’s headquarters said.

“On August 7, a foreign submarine, presumably belonging to the US Navy’s Virginia class, was detected in the Barents Sea by the alert forces of the Northern Fleet,” the source told Russian media.

According to the source, a group of anti-submarine vessels and an anti-submarine Il-38 aircraft were sent into the area on a search and trace mission.

“The vigorous action of the anti-submarine forces of the Northern Fleet resulted in the submarine being forced out of the boundary waters of the Russian Federation,” the source said.

Putin: Ukrainian army is a NATO legion

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the Ukrainian army was a NATO legion, the goal of which was not to pursue national interests of Ukraine, but to contain Russia geopolitically.

"We often say: the Ukrainian army, the Ukrainian army. In fact, who is fighting there? There are official units of the armed forces there indeed, partly, but largely, there are so-called nationalist volunteer battalions," Putin said while interacting with students at the National Mineral University in St. Petersburg.

"In fact, this is not an army, but a foreign legion, in this case, a NATO foreign legion, which, of course, does not pursue to protect Ukraine's national interests. They have different goals, and they are connected with objectives of geopolitical containment of Russia, which does not coincide with the national interests of the Ukrainian people," Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

East Ukraine Rebels Push Military Out of Donetsk Districts

Rebels in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk Oblast have reported that their forces have successfully pushed the military’s troops out of two key districts on the outskirts of the city of Donetsk, their de facto capital.

The rebels say their goal right now is to push the Ukrainian military out of artillery range of the city and to increase control over the surrounding area, with an eventual goal to capture the rest of the oblast.

Syriza comes out swinging over EU anti-Russia statement

The new Greek government has spoken out against the EU partners over the statement that lays the blame for Saturday’s fatal attack on the Ukrainian city of Mariupol on Russia. Hungary, Slovakia, and Austria voiced similar objections earlier.

The government, headed by Prime Minister Alexis Tripras, said in a press release on Tuesday that “the aforementioned statement was released without the prescribed procedure to obtain consent by the member states, and particularly without ensuring the consent of Greece.”

“In this context, it is underlined that Greece does not consent to this statement,” Tsipras added.

He voiced his “discontent” in a phone call to EU foreign relations chief Federica Mogherini.

U.S. Signs $2 Billion Loan Agreement With Ukraine, Offers To Increase Pressure On Russia

The United States on Wednesday signed an agreement providing war-torn Ukraine with $2 billion in loan guarantees to help it with "near-term social spending" in 2015 and said it was prepared to step up sanctions against Russia if necessary.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This call for further sanctions against Russia is an absolute, complete abysmal joke, courtesy of an Administration pathologically incapable of thinking a thought through from inception to logical conclusion.

What these sanctions have done is pushed Russia more firmly into the arms of China and other countries, economically, militarily, and geopolitically.

The dollar has been dumped, in favor of trade in national Chinese and Russian currencies between Russia and China; Iran just dumped the dollar yesterday in favor of the renimbi; and Australia and New Zealand have dumped the dollar and are now exchanging their currency for that of China.

And BTW, did anyone at the White House happen to get the memo that Russia and Turkey are developing oil pipelines directly through Gazprom?!?

And the US government declares that Russia is "isolated" by these economic sanctions?!? ISOLATED, MY ASTROLABE!!!!

BEX ALERT - Russian spy cell in New York 'plotted Wall Street meltdown': Men tried to crash high-frequency radio messages used for trading

Russian spies operating a cell in New York were trying to find ways to cause an economic meltdown, according to court documents.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So, if I understand this right, when the US economy collapses, which now seems inevitable, it won't be because of decades of Wall Street fraud and Washington DC corruption, it won't be the trillions in unregulated derivatives hanging over the top banks, it won't be the debt created by a ponzi-scheme private central bank issuing all of the public currency as a loan at interest; oh no, no, no, no, no, NO, it will be an eeeeeeevil plot by the Russians!

And if you believe THAT one, I have some of Saddam's nuclear weapons to sell you!

NATO must close ranks around Ukraine - Nuland

You must install the six border command centers around Ukraine as soon as possible, "she said, adding that NATO should become' spearhead that will allow us to move quickly to areas of conflict '.

'NATO is a defense organization. Our goal is to discourage countries from any aggression, but if this goal fails, we must be ready, "said Nuland.

She pointed out that sanctions already imposed by the US and the EU did not seek to punish Moscow Russian people, but to persuade President Vladimir Putin to change policy.

Webmaster's Commentary:

A short memo to Victoria Nuland: forgive me, but did I blink and miss the fact that Ukraine had actually become a NATO member?!?I do not believe that has yet actually happened; please forgive me if I am wrong (which I am most assuredly NOT).

And as reported at yahoonews.com two days ago:

NATO has made clear it has no plans to intervene militarily in Ukraine, which is not a NATO member, but it has stepped up cooperation with Kiev, including help with modernizing its armed forces. Diplomats said Ukraine was mainly looking for political support from NATO at the meeting rather than any concrete aid.

I am so terribly sorry, Ms. Nuland, that you did not get the memo.

But if I, as an ordinary American citizen, know this, why, please, is it that you do not?!?

Russia, Turkey announce new gas route with hub in Greece borders

The first gas pipe with a capacity of 15.75 billion cubic meters will be operational by December 2016.

Six hundred and sixty kilometers of the new Turkish Stream pipeline will go through the old South Stream corridor and a further 250 kilometers will head in the direction of the European part of Turkey.

The four threads which make up the pipeline will have a capacity of 63 billion cubic meters, Gazprom said in a statement following Tuesday’s meeting between CEO Aleksey Miller and the Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz.

The company will apply to carry out design and exploration work in Turkish territorial waters on Wednesday, January 28.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So much for Russia being "economically isolated" by sanctions!!

And after this weekends elections in Greece, the country's ruling majority must be feeling pretty chipper at the speed with which this deal unfolded, because the economic implications of this deal will be terrific for the new Greek government.

Ukraine’s Government Is Losing Its War.
