Is the Pentagon's Buildup in Northeast Syria a Message to Russia, Turkey, Damascus, or Someone Else?

On 18 September, the US Central Command announced that it had taken a series of measures aimed at ensuring the safety and security of US-led coalition forces in north-eastern Syria. Mark Sleboda, a US military veteran and international affairs and security analyst, has explained who the major addressees of the Pentagon's move are.

"The United States has deployed Sentinel radar, increased the frequency of US fighter patrols over US forces, and deployed Bradley Fighting Vehicles to augment US forces in the Eastern Syria Security Area (ESSA)", a Department of Defence (DOD) statement said, highlighting that "the US does not seek conflict with any other nation in Syria, but will defend Coalition forces if necessary".

Armenia tells bitter enemy Azerbaijan to brace for ‘HARSH RESPONSE’ as civilian bus hit & set on fire in new cross-border strikes

Azerbaijani artillery and aircraft have pounded a military base in Armenia, and a civilian bus has been hit in a “drone strike,” the Defense Ministry in Yerevan reported, telling its rival to brace itself for a “harsh response.”

Azeri forces targeted non-combatants in the small Armenian border town of Vardenis on Tuesday, according to Artsrun Hovhannisyan, an Armenian Defense Ministry representative. If the information is true, it would mark a serious escalation in the conflict, as a direct attack on Armenia proper.

The official uploaded to social media what he said was photographic documentation of the aftermath of a strike by an Azerbaijani unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).

Never mind the body bags from Serbia to Syria: British Labour Party MP nominates Joe Biden for Nobel Peace Prize

Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize by UK Labour Party lawmaker Chris Bryant, who credited the politician for easing political tensions amid violent protests across the US.

“When American cities have been in flames and citizen has been pitched against citizen, Joe has been a calming influence to bear,” Bryant reportedly said Monday. “When others have resorted to violent solutions, he has argued that the best force is the force of argument because guns can stop a heart, but well-placed words can change many hearts, and many hearts can change the world.”

The nomination came just one day before the first US presidential debate. Biden's rival, President Donald Trump, has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize three times this year, most recently on Monday by Australian law professors praising the “Trump Doctrine” against endless wars.

Russia Appears Indecisive As Turkey Exposed As Backing Azerbaijan War In Karabakh

From the first minutes of the start of new large-scale hostilities in the zone of the Karabakh conflict, officials in Yerevan and Stepanakert (the capital of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic) pointed to the direct participation of Turkey in preparing an Azerbaijani offensive along the entire line of contact. Armenian experts also speak about this, citing rather convincing arguments.

Turkey hiring Syrian rebels to fight Armenians for Azerbaijan, Guardian claims, as Baku calls reports on mercenaries ‘nonsense’

In an echo of events in Libya, rebels from Syria’s Idlib province are being recruited by Turkey to fight for Azerbaijan in its conflict with Armenia over Nagorno-Karabakh, The Guardian has reported, citing several militants.

Idlib is Syria’s northwestern province, and the last bastion of the Turkish-backed militants who once hoped to effect regime change in Damascus. It is there the recruitment drive for Azerbaijan began a month ago, three rebels told the Guardian’s correspondent Bethan McKernan. Her story was published on Monday evening.

Two brothers from Azaz said they had been summoned to a camp in Afrin on September 13 and told by a commander in the Sultan Murad Division that three- or six-month contracts were available “guarding observation posts and oil and gas facilities” in Azerbaijan for 7,000-10,000 Turkish lira a month.

Meet the mastermind behind JP Morgan’s metals manipulation “crime ring”

There was a time when the merest mention of gold manipulation in “reputable” media was enough to have one branded a perpetual conspiracy theorist with a tinfoil farm out back. That was roughly coincident with a time when Libor, FX, mortgage, and bond market manipulation was also considered unthinkable, when High Frequency Traders were believed to “provide liquidity”, when the stock market was said to not be manipulated by the Fed, and when the ever-confused media, always eager to take “complicated” financial concepts at the face value set by a self-serving establishment, never dared to question anything.

Joint statement on Nagorno-Karabakh

On April 15, Moscow hosted a working meeting of the foreign ministers of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia, convened at the Russian initiative. The meeting was attended by Sergey Lavrov, Elmar Mammadyarov and Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, who were joined by the Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group (Igor Popov from Russia, Andrew Shaffer from the United States, Stéphane Visconti from France) and Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office on Nagorno-Karabakh Andrzej Kasprzyk.

Following on the agreements reached by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan at a summit in Vienna on March 29, 2019, the participants at the meeting discussed the situation on the border and the line of contact, as well as prospects for organising humanitarian interaction. The parties held a detailed exchange of views on the key aspects of a settlement.

Armenia warns it will deploy Russian-made Iskander missiles if Turkey uses American-built F-16 jets in Nagorno-Karabakh conflict

Armenia is prepared to use Russian-made Iskander ballistic missiles in the Nagorno-Karabakh region if Turkey deploys its American-built F-16 fighter jets in support of the Azeri offensive, officials insisted on Monday.

However, Yerevan, while calling the F-16s a “Sword of Damocles” hanging over the people of the disputed enclave, said it hopes the situation won’t escalate to that extent.

The Armenian ambassador to Russia Vardan Toganyan said on Monday that “all measures, including the Islanders,” were on the table if Ankara deployed the jets.

However, he added, the time for that has not come yet. According to Toganyan, air defense systems in the area are enough to deal with Turkish and Azeri drones that have been used so far.

New York Times podcast star arrested for lying about joining Daesh

The main source for The New York Times’ award-winning podcast, Caliphate, has been arrested and charged with lying about having joined the Daesh terrorist group and committing execution-style killings.

Shehroze Chaudhry, 25, which the top US newspaper had relied on as the core of its reporting, was charged with "hoax-terrorist activity," according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

In 2016, Chaudhry began using social media posts to talk about his role with the Takfiri group and also took part in several media interviews, however, a lengthy investigation by Royal Canadian Mounted Police found he had no links to the terrorists.

"The charge stems from numerous media interviews where the accused … claimed he traveled to Syria in 2016 to join the terrorist group ISIS (Daesh) and committed acts of terrorism," the RCMP said in a statement.

UN Security Council to convene for emergency meeting as Nagorno-Karabakh fighting enters third day & Yerevan/Baku exchange threats

The UN Security Council is set to gather later on Tuesday to discuss the crisis in the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region, where Armenian and Azeri forces are fighting in a major flare-up of the decades-old smouldering conflict.

Initiated by five EU countries - Belgium, France, Germany, Estonia, and the UK, some 15 UN Security Council members will hold talks behind closed doors without the parties of the conflict, possibly issuing a joint declaration after the meeting.

Previously, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres underscored "the need for an immediate stop to the fighting and resumption, without preconditions, of meaningful negotiations without delay." Major world powers including the US, Russia, France, and Germany, have also urged the adversaries to cease hostilities immediately and resume talks.

Pope Francis Declines to Meet Mike Pompeo After Secretary of State Slams Vatican-China Ties - Report

The Pope was to meet the US top diplomat to discuss the would-be renewal of the Vatican-China deal, which oversees the procedure of appointment of Chinese bishops.

Pope Francis announced Sunday that he will not meet US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who is going on a formal visit this week, for fear it “could influence the US election campaign” and in order to “avoid any kind of manipulation”, Italian newspaper La Repubblica reported, citing the pontiff's office.

The development comes after the top US diplomat was recently vocal in his criticism of the Vatican’s ties with China. Francis and Pompeo have been planning a meeting regarding whether or not to renew a deal, whereby the Vatican approves the bishops appointed by China’s Catholic branch.

As widely expected, Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, has introduced new coronavirus-related restrictions for England which could potentially last six months.

Warning of a “perilous turning point”, the PM stopped short of declaring a new national lockdown, but he claimed “significantly greater restrictions” could ensue if the situation worsens.

Johnson claimed “similar steps” will be taken across the UK following his COBRA meeting with the leaders of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland on Tuesday morning (September 22).

UK boasts of attacking and 'destroying' its enemies in cyberspace

A senior British military officer has claimed his forces are dealing with 60 “significant” cyber attacks on a daily basis, likening it to a modern “Blitz”.

General Sir Patrick Sanders, who is commander of Strategic Command, claims the Ministry of Defense (MoD) and its assets are under “constant attack” in cyberspace.

According to General Sanders at least 10 of these daily attacks can be attributed to “hostile state actors”.

Strategic Command plays a monitoring and to a lesser extent coordination role across the UK’s five military services, notably the classic sea, air and land forces in addition to the more recent space and cyber warfare services.

But the more interesting part of General Sanders’ discussion of cyber warfare issues centered around his claims on British offensive capabilities in this emerging domain.

Another Horrific Chicago Weekend: 5-Year Old Girl Stabbed, 49 People Shot

There's been another horrific and bloody weekend in Chicago, after multiple weekends running of a surge in shootings and homicides. As of the start of Monday at least 49 people had been shot, including seven fatally, based on police tallies and local reports.

This past weekend was particularly tragic as it included the stabbing death of a 5-year old girl:

Serenity had multiple stab wounds. Neighbors tried to help her before paramedics got there. Paramedics arrived and rushed her to Stroger Hospital of Cook County where she died minutes later.

BEX ALERT - Researcher Suggests Deliberate Chinese Propaganda Campaign Forced World Into Lockdown

Researcher and attorney Michael P. Senger suggests that the Chinese government launched an aggressive propaganda campaign to exaggerate the severity of coronavirus in order to force the rest of the world into a draconian lockdown that would serve to benefit Beijing.

In an article for Tablet Magazine, Senger details how in late January, “international COVID-19 hysteria began” with a series of suspicious videos posted to social media sites showing people in China suddenly collapsing on the streets, including one instance where a man held out his arm to break his fall, suggesting the collapse was staged.

After tens of millions of people were confined to their homes during one of the most brutally enforced lockdowns in history, Senger notes how in February the CCP “reported an exponential decline in coronavirus cases, until March 19 when they announced their lockdown had eliminated domestic cases entirely.”

We Don't Need A Higher Minimum Wage; We Need To Fix Our Money

You’ve almost certainly heard about the “fight for $15” movement to increase the minimum wage. Well, some activists have upped the ante. How does “Fight for $20” strike you?

Here’s the problem, these people are trying to solve a legitimate problem with a really bad solution.

Last year, Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) called for a $20 national minimum wage. And why not? If $15 is good, wouldn’t $20 be better? In fact, why not go for $30 an hour. Or $100? If you can just arbitrarily assign a number to wages without consequences, why not go really big?

This reveals the problem with progressive thinking on wages. They know at some level you can’t force wages to infinity. But they have no actual economic principle upon which to peg their policy. They just throw out arbitrary numbers based on political considerations and feelings. If Bernie is going to run on $15 an hour, Tlaib can one-up him by pushing for $20. Somebody else can come off as even more compassionate by demanding $25.

Ron Paul: "Question 'The Science'? Go To Gulag!"

In the Soviet Union it was forbidden to dispute the wisdom of the “party line.” That’s because Marxian communism was viewed as the scientifically inevitable progression of mankind. For Marx and Lenin, the “science was settled.” Therefore anyone speaking out against “the science” of the Soviet system must be acting with malice; must actually want destruction; must want people to die.

Anyone voicing opposition to the “settled science” of Marxism-Leninism soon found their voice silenced. Oftentimes permanently.

Ironically, just 30 years after the “science” of Marxism-Leninism imploded for all the world to see, we are witnessing a resurgence here in the US of the idea that to question “the science” is not to seek truth or refine understanding of what appears to be conflicting evidence. No, it is to actually wish harm on one’s fellow Americans.

Why New York City Is In Trouble: 114,041 Public Employees Earn Over $100,000

Mayor Bill de Blasio is aggressively pushing for a $12.4 billion federal bailout - because New York City faces an unprecedented $7 billion budget deficit over the next two years.

Last week, in a public relations stunt, the mayor announced a one-week unpaid furlough of himself and 494 employees within his office - a taxpayer savings of a paltry $860,000.

So, how did the city get so deep into trouble?

Our auditors at OpenTheBooks.com dug into the skyrocketing city payroll. In 2016, there were 76,166 employees with pay exceeding $100,000. By 2019, there were more than 114,000 - a 50-percent increase in six-figure earners.

California EV Mandate Could "Lead To Disaster" For State's Already Fragile Electric Grid

Now that genius California lawmakers have mandated that all cars in the state must be electric by 2035, it seems like a good time to ask what, exactly, this is going to do to the state's already fragile power grid.

In what will likely come as a surprise to lawmakers who we can almost guarantee didn't think about this in advance, it turns out that electrifying all of the state's vehicles could be "an immense burden" on the state's grid, according to Bloomberg.

In fact, this past week's executive order could drive up power demands in the state by as much as 9.5% over the next 10 years and 25% by 2035. This could be a "nightmare" scenario for a state where power is often so tight that rolling blackouts are ordered to prevent the system from collapsing during heat waves.

Additionally, if everyone were to plug in their vehicles at the same time, at night, the problem could be concentrated and even worse.

Russia Was Trying To Hurt Trump? Impending Declassification To 'Flip Collusion Theory On Its Head': Solomon

New declassifications expected as soon as this week could flip the Trump-Russia collusion conspiracy theory on its head, according to Just The News' John Solomon.

According to multiple officials familiar with the planned declassification, "new evidence will raise the specter that Russian President Vladimir Putin was actually trying to hurt President Trump, not help his election in 2016, as the Obama administration claimed."

The rumored release comes on the heels of revelations that former UK spy Christopher Steele's primary dossier source was tied to Russian intelligence - suggesting that the Kremlin was in fact working with Trump's enemies to harm his chances of winning the 2016 US election. And while the Mueller investigation found no 'collusion' between Trump and Russia, Senate Judiciary Chairman Lindsay Graham (R-SC) brought up the notion of Putin working against Trump.

China Begins Massive New Military Drills in Four Neighboring Seas - Report

For the second time in two months, China is holding massive military drills in all four seas on its eastern border.

This week, the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) is hosting five military drills at sea: two in the South China Sea, one in the East China Sea and two in the Yellow Sea, one of which is in the Bohai Sea, the waterway’s innermost gulf, Reuters reported. According to the report, many of the drills will feature live-fire exercises.

Just last month, the PLA held similarly large drills, which the Chinese Ministry of Defense said did not target any specific country. However, a US U-2 “Dragon Lady” spy plane flew directly through one of the drills in the Yellow Sea, despite a no-fly zone being established by Beijing as a safety precaution. The Chinese Ministry of Defense blasted the move as “pure provocation,” noting the incident had disrupted the drills and could easily have led to misunderstandings.

Live Updates: Azerbaijani Forces Able to Retaliate if Armenia Uses Iskander Missile System - FM

Last week, the situation escalated along the contact line of Nagorno-Karabakh, an Armenian-majority autonomy that proclaimed independence from Azerbaijan in 1991. Armenia and Azerbaijan waged war over the disputed territory until 1994, and since the end of the war both sides have been holding peace talks mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group.

Azerbaijan's Ministry of Defence accused Armenian forces of attacking the city of Terter on Monday, promising to retaliate in kind. The ministry also claimed that servicemen destroyed at least two Armenian tanks amid the recent clashes. At the same time, Yerevan said that Azerbaijan is continuing to attack the region using heavy artillery.

Military hostilities erupted between the two sides on Sunday along the contact line of Nagorno-Karabakh, an Armenian-majority autonomy that proclaimed independence from what was then Soviet Azerbaijan in 1991, with each side blaming the other for putting civilian lives in danger.

Armenia claims Azerbaijani artillery attacks are intensifying as Nagorno-Karabakh officials allege they've downed Azeri warplane

Fighting between Azerbaijani and Armenian forces over the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh intensified, on Monday, with heavy civilian and military casualties reported amid disputed claims of an Azeri warplane being shot down.

Azerbaijani troops and forces from Nagorno-Karabakh have been trading artillery and rocket fire, with the population of much of Karabakh told to seek shelter. Meanwhile, Armenia has declared a general mobilization and barred men between the ages of 18 and 55 from leaving the country, except with the approval of military authorities.

The most intense attacks took place in the Aras river valley, near the border with Iran, and the Matagis-Talish front in the northeast of the region, according to Armenian Defense Ministry spokesman Artsrun Hovhannisyan. He claimed that the Azeri side has lost 22 tanks and a dozen other vehicles, along with 370 dead and many wounded.
