California's Housing Nightmare Is Only Getting Worse

When historians look back on contemporary California, one thing they'll be bound to make note of is that the state's developers bet on the wrong model.

Endless, suburban sprawl is coming back to haunt California in ways both major and minor. In densely populated communities across the state, traffic is horrible thanks to underdeveloped public transportation (this is especially true in LA). Most residents have accepted that deadly, devastating wildfires are just part of the deal now - bound to recur endlessly until the state's population shrinks to the point that it no longer intermingles with the state's vast swaths of woodland.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Although Mike and I met and married in Southern California, we have absolutely no desire to live there anymore.

America's Endless Wars: "At West Point, Graduation Day Felt More Like A Tragedy Than A Triumph"

Authored by US Army Major Danny Sjursen (ret.) via TheNation.com,

Patches, pins, medals, and badges are the visible signs of an exclusive military culture, a silent language by which soldiers and officers judge each other’s experiences, accomplishments, and general worth. In July 2001, when I first walked through the gate of the US Military Academy at West Point at the ripe young age of 17, the “combat patch” on one’s right shoulder - evidence of a deployment with a specific unit - had more resonance than colorful medals like Ranger badges reflecting specific skills. Back then, before the 9/11 attacks ushered in a series of revenge wars “on terror,” the vast majority of officers stationed at West Point didn’t boast a right shoulder patch. Those who did were mostly veterans of modest combat in the first Gulf War of 1990–91. Nonetheless, even those officers were regarded by the likes of me as gods. After all, they’d seen “the elephant.”

Pentagon Official Warns China Exporting Killer AI Drones To Middle East

US Defense Secretary Mark Esper warned during a speech on artificial intelligence at the National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence public conference Tuesday (Nov. 05) that China is exporting a series of "next-generation drones" to countries in the Middle East, reported Flight Global.

"Beijing has made it abundantly clear that it intends to be the world leader in AI by 2030," Esper said. "While the US faces a mighty task in transitioning the world's most advanced military to new AI-enabled systems, China believes it can leapfrog our current technology and go straight to the next generation."

Middle East countries banned from purchasing advanced US drones due to a weapons embargo are increasingly gravitating towards Chinese defense manufacturers.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Sec Def Ester, a question, please; IS NOT THE US GOVERNMENT DOING THE SAME THING RIGHT NOW?!?

And sir, if China's technology will enable it to "leapfrog" our current technology, can you please explain why this is possible, and that US weapons designers are not capable of doing better than this?!?

The Battle For The Soul Of Great Britain

Authored by Mike Shedlock via MishTalk,

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and Conservative candidate Boris Johnson are in an epic battle for the soul of Britain.

Radical Marxist Corbyn
In a forced distribution scheme, Labour Proposes Workers to Get 10% of Company Shares

Rebecca Long-Bailey, the shadow business secretary, and John McDonnell, the shadow chancellor, want big companies to give employees a 10% stake in their business and a seat on their boards.

They plan to renationalize rail, water, energy and Royal Mail, increase corporation tax and the minimum wage, and extend workers’ rights.

Companies doing business with the government will have bosses’ pay capped and there will be a tax on financial transactions.

Corbyn proposes sheltering the homeless and forcing homeowners to sell their homes to renters at a "reasonable" price, set by the government.

Facebook announced on Friday that it would be removing an posts which name alleged Trump-Ukraine whistleblower Eric Ciaramella

Facebook announced on Friday that it would be removing an posts which name alleged Trump-Ukraine whistleblower Eric Ciaramella.

"We are removing any and all mentions of the potential whistleblower’s name and will revisit this decision should their name be widely published in the media or used by public figures in the debate," Facebook said in a statement in which they claim it violates their "coordinating harm" policy which prohibits content 'outing of witness, informant, or activist.'

On Wednesday, the social media giant removed ads naming Ciaramella which had been viewed several hundred thousand times according to the Washington Post.

On Friday, Breitbart's Allum Bohkari reported that the news outlet's posts containing references to Ciaramella had been scrubbed from the site.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Frankly, this is precisely what we can expect henceforward from the Zuk, the Malnificent's "Facebook"; since the 4th estate in this country has been defined as "journalism, or what passes for it in this country today", the 5th estate has become that of both the cybersurveillence, and cyber-scrubbing ordered by the US Deep State; folks, it is just that simple.

Zuk the Malnificent, through Facebook, is simply a tool of the US Deep State; nothing more and nothing less.

Thirst for Justice: America’s Struggle for Clean Water: Pollution, poisoning and the loss of human life due to unsafe water are the accepted costs of doing business in America.

Somehow I’d ended up on a plastic mattress in a tiny prison cell wearing the infamous orange jump suit. I’d been arrested once before in Egypt during the revolution as a journalist, but now I was in Wisconsin, America, where freedom of speech is enshrined in the constitution. I’d considered myself safe there.

I had been arrested whilst filming a small, peaceful protest by mainly Indigenous Ojibwe people against the construction of a new oil pipeline. I was working on a documentary film on America’s struggle for clean water.

Controversial pipelines

Enbridge’s Line 3 will carry 760,000 barrels per day of tar sands oil from Canada, across the American border to a refinery on Lake Superior, Wisconsin. Almost as much oil as the controversial Keystone XL.

The Vaccine Deep State. Impacts of Aluminum Adjuvants in Vaccines

The media refuses to accept that those who have been vaccine damaged, or who have children who will suffer for the remainder of their lives from adverse vaccine events, have a legitimate right to speak their truth rather than being labeled as hysterical or crazy. All of these individuals and parents were pro-vaccine until they or their child became vaccine-injured. Similarly we saw the New York Times manufacturing consent for accepting falsehoods that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction. And this was true across the mainstream outlets including the Washington Post, Fox, MSNBC, CNN and others. The Times fabricated that rationale to the public on behalf of the neocons in the Bush administration who were determined to have a war. None of the journalists publishing these lies have taken responsibility nor lost a night’s sleep because their fakery led to the death of millions.

Substandard Education in America

The quality of American education, as we will see, is far lower than the world has been led to believe, and the quality in China is in many cases much superior to that in the US. Americans might care to ask why it is that Chinese elementary or high school students moving to the US are often promoted by one or two grades. The reason is that they know so much more than their American counterparts they would suffer terminal boredom if forced to remain at their prior grade level. If we refer to the PISA tests, Shanghai’s math scores were 119 above the OECD average, or the equivalent of nearly three years of schooling, with reading and science exceeding the OECD average by about 1.5 years of schooling. And in some cases, the American students were behind the OECD average by approximately the same number of years as the Chinese were ahead.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Folks, this cannot be seen in any possible light but that of a deliberate push by the US government to keep its people illiterate; innumerate; and incapable of critical thinking.

Father of Julian Assange Fears His Son Will Die in Prison: UN Rapporteur on Torture Warned Assange May Lose his Life

John Shipton, the father of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, told reporters on Friday that he needs to “face the bitter truth” that his son “may die in jail.” Shipton spoke with reporters in Geneva two days after he visited Assange in Belmarsh prison in London.

“This is not the bitter disappointment of a father, this is simply fact,” Shipton said. “Julian may die in jail over a nine-year persecution for revealing the truth of war crimes. It is beyond obscene.”

Shipton’s comments come a week after UN special rapporteur on torture Nils Melzer said, “Unless the UK urgently changes course and alleviates his inhumane situation, Mr. Assange’s continued exposure to arbitrariness and abuse may soon end up costing his life.” Melzer has previously warned that Assange had been subject to psychological torture.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I believe that Assange's dad is absolutely, horrifically correct.

Assange's info has never been hit as falsification; he has simply been a "thorn in the side" of the US government, and I cannot for a moment doubt, that he has been the victim of both physical and psychological torture, while held at Belmarsh.

IF he does make it into an American prison (which I sincerely doubt will happen), he will, most likely, be too ill to speak in his own defense, and wind up dead of some weaponized disease, one of the effects of which is hallucinatory behaviour and thoughts, which will become part and parcel of how his "legacy" will be screwed by the US/British intelligence agencies in years to come, for telling the truth.

More Iraqi Protesters Killed, Sistani Says Time for Govt to Meet DemandsSistani aide: No longer can government procrastinate

Iraqi security forces continued to crack down on protests Friday, with security forces killing at least 10 people in Basra, where the protesters have been keeping the country’s main Gulf port closed for days.

Live gunfire and killing protesters hasn’t worked in the past, nor is there any sign it’s going to work here. The biggest issue is likely to be Grand Ayatollah Ali Sistani’s sermon, which is now saying the government must immediately meet demands of protesters.

The top religious leader in Iraq, Sistani has long warned against using force against the protesters, and now says it is time to just meet the demands of the protesters immediately. His aide Sheikh Abdul Mahdi al-Karbalaie, added that their position is that the Iraqi government can not “procrastinate on this issue because of the great risks facing the country.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

To Iraq's Grand Ayatollah Ali Sistani, I have three words for you, and they are BLESS YOU SIR!!

Speaking out against corruption in government is not an easy task (and trust me, sir, as an American, I do know just a tiny bit about this); I understand that this took a lot of moral courage on your part, but you absolutely did the right thing here.

Because if policy makers in Baghdad do not listen to you, we may well be looking at a bloody revolution in Iraq, with a government permanently aligned with other than American interests, and that influence would most likely coming from...Iran.

Unfortunately, the Iranian-born Shiite Cleric, Muktada Al Sadr, whose party created a significant coalition in the last Parliamentary elections, is now seen as part of the problem, because his influence really did nothing to create a cure for Iraq's corruption, even though he has railed against it frequently.

Pentagon’s East Syria Operation About More Than Taking the Oil

Whether to control the oil or flat out take the oil, US statements on the new military mission in Syria are heavily oil-themed. Other reports, however, suggest that the operation is a lot more complicated than that.

In reality, a lot of the goal is nation-building, with US forces meant to both keep the Syrian government out of this part of Syria, and try to “bring prosperity” to the region, propping up a potential territory of rebels.

This is again built around the assumption that the US can manufacture an autonomous, prosperous region, using the oilfields as the revenue source, and then steer that region toward hostility with the rest of Syria.

This will likely end up being a plan easier for the Trump Administration to sell than overt theft of oil, as it allows the US to retain its primary focus, military hostility toward Syria with an eye toward eventual regime change.

Webmaster's Commentary:

(Sigh) to those in the Pentagon who actually believe that this is a reasonable, logical way of moving forward in Syria; I really don't know if you need a hug, some calcium magnesium; some milk and a happy-ending bedtime story, or at least one American, a Christian pacifist activist, who never encourages violence (folks, that's me) to gently suggest to you that such an approach is completely, as in barking-dog mad, rubber-room-esque insane.

What homogeneous group are you going to give this region to, now that the Kurds have pledged fealty to the Syrian government?!?

The Kurds’ commander in chief explains why his forces are finally ready to partner with Assad and Putin.

My big question is, how long Russia's Putin will be willing to put up with this foolishness before Russian (plus Kurdish plus Syrian) troops uncork on US positions in Syria?!?

And folks, for me, that is the ultimate nightmare scenario. The two headlines right under this at antiwar.com, give me no comfort on this issue either.

Pentagon Claims US Authority to Shoot Any Syrian Govt Official Who Tries to Take Control of Syrian Oil and the headline under this, Erdogan: Turkey Won’t Leave Syria Until Every Other Country Does: Says Turkey will not let up on offensive against Kurdish militants

Does the US position here even remotely resemble a reasonable, sane, responsible, and moral moment of conflict resolution?!?

The short answer, of course, is: HELL, NO!!!

Jim Jordan Hit With 'Jerkoff-Gate' Hours Before Joining Impeachment Panel

Update: Despite 'masturgate' - Jordan was appointed to the House Intelligence Committee on Friday.

Days before his anticipated appointment to the House's leading impeachment panel, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) has been hit with a new allegation that he ignored a 1994 complaint claiming that an Ohio State University sports doctor jerked off in a shower in front of a referee, according to NBC News.

The curiously timed allegation is contained in a lawsuit filed Thursday by 43 accusers who claim Ohio State's "ingrained culture of institutional indifference" enabled their sexual abuse. The doctor, Richard Strauss, is accused of "drugging and raping athletes" as he preyed on underage athletes. He died in 2005 and was later found to have sexually abused 177 male students over two decades.

Webmaster's Commentary:

"...CURIOUSLY TIMED..." MY ASTROLABE!!

The point of the timing was to completely prevent Jordan from being appointed to the House Intelligence Committee which, thankfully, did not happen; I am reminded, at this moment, of that statement of Oscar Wilde, about "Revenge is a dish served best cold".

What the Democrats, or Bunglingcrats, as i now describe them, have managed to do, here is get to Representative Jordan furious enough to be able to rip this whole inquiry to shreds, and right in front of the American people.

One has to wonder what the statute of limitations is in Ohio, or wherever this lawsuit was filed, in light of the fact that these allegations happened over 25 years ago, and Dr. Strauss died 19 years ago.

The curious timeline for taking down Trump

It’s three full years since President Trump was elected.

Among those who predicted he could never win the election — or that he might have been conspiring with Hillary Clinton all along, worked for Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, would crash the U.S. stock market his first week in office, would ban all Muslims, would send illegal immigrants home en masse on buses and trains, and would start a nuclear war — there have been real concerns.

But to others, there are different concerns that have borne out. We continue to get evidence of an orchestrated effort among government insiders and the well-connected to take down President Trump at all costs. The public evidence indicates that the effort was hatched even before he took office.

Webmaster's Commentary:

That this madness is still playing out in Foggy Bottom, demonstrates the lengths to which the Dementocrats will go, to bring this Presidency down, and right the hell now.

Because without a clear, viable contender from the Democratic Party to run against him, Trump is very likely to win handily in 2020.

HACKERS CAN SILENTLY CONTROL YOUR GOOGLE HOME, ALEXA, SIRI WITH LASER LIGHT

SOURCE: THE HACKER NEWS
A team of cybersecurity researchers has discovered a clever technique to remotely inject inaudible and invisible commands into voice-controlled devices — all just by shining a laser at the targeted device instead of using spoken words.

Dubbed 'Light Commands,' the hack relies on a vulnerability in MEMS microphones embedded in widely-used popular voice-controllable systems that unintentionally respond to light as if it were sound.

According to experiments done by a team of researchers from Japanese and Michigan Universities, a remote attacker standing at a distance of several meters away from a device can covertly trigger the attack by simply modulating the amplitude of laser light to produce an acoustic pressure wave.

"By modulating an electrical signal in the intensity of a light beam, attackers can trick microphones into producing electrical signals as if they are receiving genuine audio," the researchers said in their paper [PDF].

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is more than scary; and if it can happen to civilian equipment, what about military equipment?!?

In Murder on The Malta Express – Who Killed Daphne Caruana Galizia? the trio say it was Malta's 'culture of impunity' which helped create the conditions where its 'greatest and most fearless journalist' could have been murdered.

Nestlé has come under fire for its plans to bottle more than a million gallons of water a day from natural springs in Florida.

Facebook Communications Leaked Antitrust Behaviors, Admits 100 Developers Had Access To User Data

By Aaron Kesel

Facebook states that even after the company locked down its Groups’ application programming interface (API) last year, some app developers retained improper access to information about the site’s millions of members, according to a Facebook blog post.

Facebook notes that roughly 100 developers might have accessed user information since Facebook changed its rules in April of 2018, and at least 11 of those devs accessed member data in the last 60 days. Facebook now says it has cut all partners off from that data.

Facebook Group administrators are able to use third-party tools to manage their groups, giving apps information about its users’ activity. However, since the changes last year, developers shouldn’t be able to see individual members’ names, profile pictures, or unspecified other profile data...

PIERS MORGAN: In one brutally ballsy talk-show appearance, Donald Trump Jr. gave us a stunning View of barefaced lying liberal celebrity hypocrisy - and it wasn't a pretty sight

Even before Donald Trump Jr. appeared on The View yesterday, liberal celebrities were howling their fury.

Will and Grace actress Debra Messing, who hasn't stopped hysterically raging about all things Trump for the past four years, was incensed the President's son was even allowed to go on at all.

'Why would you bring him on?' she tweeted the ABC show's Twitter account. 'You trying to be 'balanced'?'

You could almost feel the bile laced all over her lips as she spat out the dreaded b-word.

Messing is an expert in disappointing and irresponsible decisions.

A few weeks ago, she demanded the Hollywood Reporter publish the names of everyone attending a Trump fundraiser in Beverly Hills. Her Will and Grace co-star Eric McCormack revealed the sinister motive behind this demand: 'Kindly report on everyone attending this event, so the rest of us can be clear about who we don't wanna work with. Thx.'

Las Vegas becomes first major city to make it a crime to sleep or camp out on the streets as it moves to tackle the homeless crisis blighting cities across America

Las Vegas officials passed a law on Wednesday the first in the US that will make it illegal for homeless people to sleep on streets when beds are available at established shelters.

The measure will apply to the city's downtown urban core, not the tourist-heavy Las Vegas Strip, which is overseen by a different jurisdiction.

Las Vegas becomes the latest city in the US West - from San Francisco and Seattle to Honolulu and Salt Lake City - to try to deal with complaints about homelessness.

The 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals struck down a similar law from Boise, Idaho, last year - calling it unconstitutional to prosecute people for sleeping in public places when there aren't enough shelter beds.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is just going to make the homeless crisis in Vegas worse, not better.

What happens where there are no beds at community shelters, and what happens to those who have no housing whatsoever?!?!?

Families Of Cartel-Assault Victims Insist Deadly Attack "Was No Accident"

Contrary to our expectations, the slaying of nine members of a Mormon community living in Northern Mexico at the hands of Mexican cartel gunmen seems to have already dropped out of the news cycle, perhaps because it's already become clear that neither the US nor Mexico is planning to hold the attackers accountable.

Senior Mexican security officials who are obviously worried about more bad press insist that the attack was a case of mistaken identity. But keep in mind, these are the same people who initially told the world that federal police just happened to stumble upon the son of El Chapo in Culiacan (denying that his arrest had been the target of an organized operation).

Security Minister Alfonso Durazo, whose name has been in the press frequently in the aftermath of the attack, said earlier this week that the gunmen may have attacked the women because they suspected they were members of a rival gang during a period of intense turf wars.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Prayers for all who were killed, wounded, and all family/friends affected by this horrific attack; but I have to wonder; did the Cartel ordering the hit think that this Mormon family saw or heard something which justified their assassinations?

Following the closures (51 Sears and 45 Kmart stores), Transformco will operate only 182 stores, a 57% decline of its Sears and Kmart footprint from 1Q19 of 425 stores.

The latest 96 closures are in addition to the 100 stores we reported last month.

In 2014, Sears operated 2,000 Sears and Kmart stores across the country have seen significant declining sales as consumer trends evolve to more e-commerce shopping.

Webmaster's Commentary:

That's an intense amount of closures; I doubt that Sears will be with us much longer.

‘Kafkaesque’: CBS fires female staffer who MAY have leaked Epstein rant video of ABC anchor – report

CBS has reportedly fired a female staffer formerly with ABC, suspecting her of having leaked the hot mic tape of anchor Amy Robach in which she complained about the channel spiking her interview with Jeffrey Epstein’s victim.

The unnamed employee was fired on Wednesday after ABC tipped off the (supposedly) rival network “as a courtesy” that its employee had possession of the Robach tape and may have leaked it to Project Veritas, Page Six reported on Thursday, citing sources inside ABC.

ABC chose to inform its competitor of the traitor in their midst after considering its options and realizing there was little it could do to her on its own, since the staffer had left ABC for CBS, the report said. Had she still worked at ABC, the leak would have been a “fireable offense.”

Facebook Removes News Reporting, Mention of Alleged ‘Whistleblower’s’ Identity

Facebook is removing any mention of the potential whistleblower’s name and is cracking down against Facebook publishers that mention any allegation of the potential whistleblower’s name, claiming they are violating Facebook’s Community Standards and Policies.

For example, on Wednesday evening, Facebook removed Breitbart posts reporting on the fact other respected news outlets have reported the identity of the alleged whistleblower is Eric Ciaramella. Any Facebook user who attempts to click on that article on Facebook is now given a message that says, “this content isn’t available at the moment.”

To be clear, Breitbart did not “out” the alleged whistleblower but did provide additional relevant reporting about him; he is, after all, a public figure, having served on the National Security Council. Moreover, his name has been used in the Mueller report (p283) and Ambassador Bill Taylor’s testimony.
