Ukraine started the week with near record-setting drone attacks on Moscow, with over 600 UAVs sent against the Russian capital Monday night into Tuesday.

The expected major Russian retaliation has come overnight, with a huge missile and drone barrage on the Ukrainian capital. Many dozens were sent, killing over 16 people and injuring more than 40, local authorities report.

The casualty rate was high despite that Ukraine says it managed to intercept nearly 90% of inbound projectiles, which it did not give a total figure for.

Local media reports indicate the capital city's Solomianskyi district district was the worst hit:

In the Sviatoshynskyi district, a Russian attack damaged buildings on non-residential property. In addition, a fire broke out in the warehouse facilities there.

In the Solomianskyi district, debris damaged the upper floors of a 9-story residential building, after which a fire broke out there. Rescue workers have already extinguished it. Windows were also shattered in four nearby residential buildings.

At another location, debris caused a fire on the upper floors of a 4-story building.

In addition, a school and a children's hospital were damaged in the Solomianskyi district. Windows were shattered at the hospital, and cars caught fire on its grounds. The fire has been extinguished. Garages were also damaged.

President Zelensky used the devastation to once again call on the West to urgently provide more Patriot systems, amid dwindling anti-air supplies.

"The interceptors for Patriot systems have not yet been replaced, and they are needed every day," Zelensky wrote in a Telegram post on Thursday. "Each additional missile saves the lives of our people."

Claire's Observations:  The West has no more Patriot missiles to offer, in light of how many of them were downed in the war against Iran;  Zelinsky is a  consummate  idiot if he doesn't understand this, and yet the moron has lost critical time against a Russian government now potentially looking to seize all of Ukraine. 

 He had his chance; blew it;  and now he sounds like a whiny two year old, with no more toys with which to play.  

That he didn't know this was ultimately coming, as a very brutal way to ultimately enforce a surrender on Russian terms, makes him a recipient for a Darwin Award for Geopolitical Stupidity, if there ever was such a category. 

The genocide of Palestinians in Gaza is the longest and most expensive military campaign in Israel's history, costing an estimated $142 billion so far and set to approach roughly $169 billion, Haaretz reported on 16 August.

Tel Aviv's genocide has driven Israel's national debt up by some $130 billion, with the state set to spend around $500 billion on the military over the coming decade, according to Haaretz.

Israeli occupation forces detained at least 30 Palestinians during overnight raids across the occupied West Bank on 19 August, as illegal settlers, under military protection, continued their siege of Qusra for an 11th day straight.

The sweep fell heaviest on Hebron, Nablus, Qalqilya, Tulkarem, and Bethlehem, where soldiers ransacked properties and interrogated residents before abducting them, the Palestinian Prisoners' Society (PPS) said, with eight seized south of Hebron, six near Qalqilya, and four in Nablus, including two brothers, according to WAFA.

In Nablus, soldiers beat a 28-year-old man, leaving him hospitalized with serious injuries, WAFA reported, adding that troops also detained residents in Qalandiya Refugee Camp and set up military checkpoints during the raid.

Israeli forces and settlers launched at least 467 attacks on Palestinian communities across the occupied West Bank over the past week, the Palestinian prime minister’s office said.

In a post on X, the office said the violence damaged 75 Palestinian homes and other structures.

It described the attacks as part of a “relentless escalation of violence, dispossession, and destruction”.

Turkey has sought to downplay Tuesday’s Israeli strikes on the Abu al-Duhur military airbase in northern Syria, about 70km from the Turkish border, viewing them as an election stunt by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Netanyahu has recently portrayed Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani as enemies of Israel in his election campaign materials. 

However, the attack - which immediately followed the signing of the Mecca defence agreement between Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan - suggests that Israel may be seeking to undermine Ankara's credibility as an ally in Syria.

Iran channelled $7.5bn in foreign currency earnings from oil sales to its central bank during the first four months of the year, the semiofficial Fars news agency reported.

Fars, citing Oil Ministry data, said the figure marked a 50 percent increase from the same period in 2025.

Officials expect the money to fund the government’s foreign currency requirements until late December.

For years, tick bites have largely been assumed to explain Alpha-Gal Syndrome. But that explanation leaves several major questions unanswered. Tens of millions of Americans are bitten by ticks, yet only a minority become sensitized and only a fraction of those individuals develop clinical disease. Even the amount of alpha-gal actually delivered by a feeding tick has never been measured.

At the same time, more than 90% of U.S. children are exposed to alpha-gal-bearing mammalian gelatin through routine vaccination. A child completing the two-dose MMR and varicella schedules receives approximately 54 mg of mammalian gelatin by injection before school entry.

Jurors at a London court were discharged after being unable to reach verdicts for seven Palestine Action defendants accused of coordinating a raid on an Israeli-owned arms factory.

One person who could not be named for legal reasons was convicted by a majority of 9-1 of criminal damage in relation to the incident.

The defendants- Hannah Davidson, 53, Ian Sanders, 47, Aleksandra Herbich, 41, Teuta Hoxha, 30, William Plastow, 35, Julija Brigadirova, 33, Sean Middlebrough, 33, and Madeleine Norman, 31- were accused of criminal damage and violent disorder in connection with a break-in to an Elbit Systems factory in Filton, near Bristol in August 2024.

Iran is considering launching attacks on US military targets in Europe if President Donald Trump escalates the conflict, according to a report.

Sources close to Iran’s government told the Financial Times that potential targets included a British air base in Cyprus that was targeted by a drone in March.

Other countries in southeastern Europe such as Bulgaria, which approved US access to its Bezmer air base for refuelling last month, were also weighed up as a potential target for strikes.

It follows warnings that Tehran is considering switching to a “fully offensive” strategy, a senior Iranian official told Reuters on Monday.
