Ukraine started the week with near record-setting drone attacks on Moscow, with over 600 UAVs sent against the Russian capital Monday night into Tuesday.

The expected major Russian retaliation has come overnight, with a huge missile and drone barrage on the Ukrainian capital. Many dozens were sent, killing over 16 people and injuring more than 40, local authorities report.

The casualty rate was high despite that Ukraine says it managed to intercept nearly 90% of inbound projectiles, which it did not give a total figure for.

Iran is considering launching attacks on US military targets in Europe if President Donald Trump escalates the conflict, according to a report.

Sources close to Iran’s government told the Financial Times that potential targets included a British air base in Cyprus that was targeted by a drone in March.

Other countries in southeastern Europe such as Bulgaria, which approved US access to its Bezmer air base for refuelling last month, were also weighed up as a potential target for strikes.

The Trump administration on Wednesday unveiled a plan to ease upward pressure on the cost of US debt by doubling its bond buybacks through November.

In announcing that it will buy back “at least” $4 billion worth of bonds over a two-month period, the US Department of Treasury said it was seeking “to provide greater liquidity support in longer-dated nominal sectors where there is consistent strong sponsorship from market participants.”

The US placed sanctions on two officials with the International Criminal Court (ICC).

On Tuesday, Secretary of State and National Security Adviser Marco Rubio announced that the US would sanction Tomoko Akane of Japan, the ICC president, and Abdoulaye Seye of Senegal, an ICC senior trial lawyer. He said the sanctions were a part of a “diplomatic campaign to dismantle the ICC’s threat to our national sovereignty.”
