Iran has formally rejected claims by anonymous US intelligence sources in US media this week that the Islamic Republic is supposedly plotting to kill Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump. Prolific Iranian-American political observer Dr. Mohammad Marandi tells Sputnik why the claims make no sense, and what they are designed to conceal.

Iran has angrily dismissed United States media reports that it has been plotting to assassinate former US President Donald Trump.

A foreign ministry spokesman on Wednesday stated that Iran rejects the “malicious” allegations that it has plotted an attack on the Republican presidential hopeful. However, Nasser Kanaani asserted that Iran aims to prosecute Trump for ordering the assassination of a senior military official in 2020.

Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman held a phone call with Iran’s President-elect Masoud Pezeshkian, congratulating him on his recent election victory, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Wednesday.

The Crown Prince and Pezeshkian “praised the development of relations between the two countries at various levels, stressing the importance of continuing to enhance cooperation in various fields,” SPA said.
