When you are playing with a baby, you can use the n-word, the f-word, the P-word, the Z-word, and as long as you smile and use a soothing voice the baby will continue to smile and laugh. If an adult is driven to tears by a mere word, it's because somewhere along the way, someone taught them to react with shock and anger at that word. That gives the word power over the person so trained and conditioned, and power to those who use such words to control you. Our society gives too much power to mere words, and this undermines our society. -- Michael Rivero

At least five rockets were launched from Iraq's town of Zummar towards a U.S. military base in northeastern Syria on Sunday, two Iraqi security sources said.

The attack against U.S. forces is the first since early February when Iranian-backed groups in Iraq stopped their attacks against U.S. troops.

Iran had never attacked Israel prior to that point and Syria last fought Israel in 1973, over 50 years ago.

Israel, however, has regularly been assassinating Iranian officials and scientists and it has been frequently bombing Syria since 2017, increasing the pace to weekly and sometimes even daily attacks over the past six months paralleling the Gaza fighting.

The Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) destroyed three militant hideouts in hard-to-reach mountainous terrain in the central Syrian governorate of Homs known as al-Amor ridge, the deputy chief of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of the Opposing Parties in Syria announced on April 17

“The Russian Aerospace Forces destroyed three hideouts, used by militants who left the al-Tanf zone and took refuge in hard-to-access areas of the al-Amor ridge in the Homs Governorate,” Major General Yury Popov said in a daily briefing.

The United States general in command of the Middle East headed to Israel on Thursday to coordinate with Israeli defense officials after Iran threatened retaliation against the country for an attack in Syria.

General Michael 'Erik' Kurilla's expected meeting with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and other senior Israel Defense Forces officials was first reported by Axios. Kurilla is commander of U.S. Central Command.

Iran's foreign minister has accused the United States of approving a deadly strike blamed on Israel that destroyed Tehran's Damascus consulate last week after he inaugurated a new consulate in the Syrian capital.

Tehran, a key Damascus ally, has vowed to avenge last Monday's air strike on the Iranian embassy's consular section that killed seven Iran's Revolutionary Guard members, including two generals.

"America is responsible for this incident and must be held accountable," Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian told reporters in Damascus on Monday.

During a speech in Beirut on Friday, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah said that Iran will surely retaliate for last week’s attack, presumably by Israel, on its consulate in Damascus that led to the death of seven members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, including senior Al-Quds commander Mohammad Reza Zahedi.
