He arrived from neighbouring Morocco ten days ago, swimming miles to the beach, and now hopes for a free pass to Europe where, he says, he will work hard, make a new life, but never relinquish his Muslim faith.

After a six-year, 2,700-mile journey from his village, Abdelhadi Ali, a slim 18-year-old, is now in touching distance of the EU.
