More ordnance was rained down on Iraq during the six weeks of the Gulf War than was dropped in the whole of World War Two.

Unknown to the public or the Allied troops at the time, much of it was coated with depleted uranium (DU).

This nuclear waste has replaced titanium as a cheap coating for weapons which can pierce armour.

Given the extensive structural damage sustained as a result of the collision, it is likely that the aircraft was repaired using a new tail section taken from a decommissioned KC-135 aircraft located at the 309th Aviation Repair and Disposal Unit, also known as the Aircraft Cemetery, at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Arizona.
