NATO will send additional military equipment and aircraft to the Black Sea, following a series of drone attacks on shipping vessels in the key waterway.
Allison Hart, NATO's principal spokeswoman, said in an Oct. 20 post on X that the assets will support surveillance, reconnaissance, and forensic activities.
The decision came after NATO ambassadors met at the North Atlantic Council, the defense alliance's main decision-making body, to discuss Black Sea security.
"We will continue to stand united and ensure that we are ready and able to address any threat and to keep our one billion people safe," Hart said.
NATO's military spokesman, U.S. Army Col. Martin L. O'Donnell, said that in addition to sending the radar systems, drones, and patrol aircraft, allies will send or have sent intelligence agents and teams to conduct forensic examinations of explosives used against shipping vessels.
NATO has not attributed the attacks to any country.
Claire's Observations: In looking at these bombings, one has to ask the question, "Cui bono"?!? Who benefits?!?
But perhaps we need to ask the question in reverse; who does NOT benefit from these bombings?!?
Obviously NATO member countries and the businesses damaged by these attacks.
Russia... does not benefit, because should blame be placed on it, that would be the justification for NATO invoking Article Five of its charter, and declare a war against it. (Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty states that an armed attack against one or more NATO members in Europe or North America is considered an attack against all members.) And right now, Russia has its hands full, fighting Ukraine.
So what's the" mystery country" whose crazed leadership would just LOVE to see NATO and the US fighting against Russia directly, and is currently bombing the hell out of Russia's energy infrastructure?!?
Ukraine.... would be that country.
And President Trump is so enraged at its President Zelinsky, that he is actively considering a peace conference between Russia, China, and the US on Ukraine which bypasses Ukrainian involvement completely.
Zelinsky has recently stated, that he would be willing to hold elections under the enactment of a 60 day Russian cease-fire. https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/ukraines-zelenskiy-tells-abc-he-will-organize-elections-if-russia-agrees-60-day-2026-10-11/Russia has rejected this proposal, stating that a cease-fire would simply give Kiev the chance to re-arm, but has counter-proposed Election Day Halts.
Moscow suggested that President Putin would be willing to order a halt to strikes specifically for a single day on an election date, if one is scheduled, but refused a broader multi-week truce.
Exhausting DC's good will with his consistent refusal to end this war, Zelinsky has NOT endeared himself to President Trump. And this pathetic attempt to embroil NATO any further into this war by these bombings, is going to fail, utterly.
I don't know to where Zelinsky will abscond with the money he's siphoned off of US/NATO aid when he exits Ukraine; but many former members of his government are now living "the good life" in Israel, courtesy of US taxpayers.
I would politely suggest the time for that exit, may now be sooner...... rather than later.
