French journalist Paul Amar told CNews on October 18, 2026, that on one Marseille street, every Jewish-owned business was set on fire, while businesses run by Muslims were not. Several outlets repeated the allegation, noting it reportedly happened over the Jewish Sabbath. The reports did not list store names, provide police case files, or show verified video that matched owners to damage. Paris police signed a formal order on October 16 that restricted fireworks across Paris and three nearby departments from October 17 through October 19, 2026. Professor David Betz of King’s College London has done something few academics ever manage: he has got a good part of the country talking seriously about civil war in Britain. His case is about the body politic, a fragmenting society, collapsing trust in the state, and the point at which organised groups start using violence to settle what politics no longer can.

Cuba has accused the United States of threatening countries with tariffs, visa restrictions and other retaliatory measures in an effort to get them to change their votes on an upcoming United Nations resolution calling for an end to the long-running embargo against the island.

Every year, a majority in the UN General Assembly votes in favour of a nonbinding resolution seeking a stop to the US embargo, which began in the early 1960s.
